Polka music filled the air and dancers dressed in colorful, traditional Polish attire graced the stage on the second day of the American Polish Festival in Sterling Heights on Saturday.
While enjoying the entertainment, many took the time to explore the Polish cuisine on hand including homemade perogi filled with potato, cheese, mushrooms or sauerkraut. Hot potato pancakes fresh off the grill and topped with a dollop of sour cream were also popular as well as the traditional golabki, which are cabbage rolls stuffed with meat and rice.
There were several crafters selling their wares as well as vendors with Polish-themed merchandise including shirts, beer mugs, hats and flags.
Weekend events included the Strodek’s Perogi Eating Challenge that is based on consuming the most potato and cheese perogi in 10 minutes. Last year’s record was 69 perogi.
The three-day festival took place at the American Polish Century Club on Maple Lane in Sterling Heights.
