CHICO >> A week after the Almond Blossom Run, when competitors raced against a backdrop of bare trees, blossoms started blooming in almond orchards over the weekend.

Almond trees typically flower between February and March. Honey bees fly from blossom to blossom, collecting pollen and nectar for their hives — simultaneously pollinating the trees. Nuts mature between March and June for harvest between August and October.
