The status of receiver Jordan Addison is very much up in the air as the Vikings prepare for a tough matchup with the San Francisco 49ers.

After suffering an ankle injury midway through Sunday’s season opener — it was about the only thing that went wrong for the Vikings as they coasted to a 28-6 win over the New York Giants — Addison missed practice Wednesday afternoon at TCO Performance Center.

That news came about 48 hours after Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell noted Addison was experiencing some pretty significant soreness.

“He’s going to stay in and get some treatment,” O’Connell said. “We’re taking it a day at a time with Jordan.”

The ankle injury occurred after Addison caught a screen pass from Sam Darnold. As he turned up the field in an attempt to gain more yards, Addison was pulled down awkwardly while being tackled. He stayed in the blue medical tent for roughly 15 minutes before walking to the locker room with a towel over his head.

If Addison is unable to play Sunday afternoon at U.S. Bank Stadium, speedy receiver Jalen Nailor will likely be asked to fill the void, as will veteran Brandon Powell and physical backup Trent Sherfield Sr.

Van Ginkel misses practice

Linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel also missed practice, raising questions about his availability.

It’s worth noting Van Ginkel was held out down the stretch in his debut with the Vikings.

After making a splash with an interception return for a touchdown, Van Ginkel didn’t finish the game due to a foot injury that he rehabbed this offseason.

“Just kind of a precautionary thing,” O’Connell said postgame. “He should be fine.”

It will be interesting to follow the injury report as it pertains to Van Ginkel over the next couple of days. If he returns to practice at any point, he should theoretically be good to go against the 49ers.

Jones makes a difference

The impact of running back Aaron Jones showed up in a variety of ways in his debut with the Vikings.

Whether he was bouncing outside on his touchdown run or cutting back against the grain for a big gain, Jones made his presence felt while recording 14 carries for 94 yards.

Was there a run in particular that stood out?

“Not really,” O’Connell said. “You saw a guy that is pretty darn explosive with that burst and has great feel and vision.”

Briefly

The only other players who showed up on the injury report for the Vikings were center Garrett Bradbury, who was listed as a limited participant with a knee injury, and receiver Jalen Nailor, who was listed as a full participant with an ankle injury.
