Facing elimination, the Dodgers got a big hit from Mookie Betts, a strong start from Yoshinobu Yamamoto and a game-ending double play in a 3-1 win over the Blue Jays Friday night in World Series Game 6 in Toronto.

The Dodgers forced a deciding Game 7 today with a chance to become the first team to win back-to-back World Series titles since the New York Yankees won three straight from 1998-2000.

Betts, who had struggled in the series, calling himself “terrible” after Game 5, had been moved down in the batting order to the No. 4 spot. He came up with the bases loaded in the third inning and lined a single to left, scoring two runs to put the Dodgers up 3-0.

Yamamoto, who had pitched consecutive complete games in the National League Championship Series and Game 2 of the World Series, pitched six innings, allowing a single run while striking out six.

The Blue Jays threatened in the ninth inning, putting runners on second and third with nobody out trailing 3-1 and chasing Dodgers reliever Roki Sasaki. Tyler Glasnow came on in relief, induced a soft infield popup and then a short fly ball to left field that Kiké Hernandez charged, made the catch and doubled the runner off second to end the game.

In Game 7, the Dodgers are expected to start Shohei Ohtani on the mound. He would face Toronto’s Max Scherzer, the 41-year-old future Hall of Famer.
