A 55-year-old Batavia woman died after she was struck by an SUV Wednesday evening in Geneva on Route 38, officials said.

The woman, whose identity has not been released as of late Friday, was walking southbound near the center turn lane on State Street east of Sandholm Street when she was struck around 6:48 p.m., police officials said in a news release.

She was hit by a 2018 Hyundai Kona driven by a 30-year-old Geneva woman, who was traveling westbound on State Street, according to the news release.

Geneva police and firefighters responded to the scene and paramedics took the woman to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva, where she later died, officials said in the release.

The driver was not injured and has been cooperating with the police, officials said.

The Geneva woman was issued a traffic citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
