More information has been released on last Friday’s fatal shooting in Commerce Township.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, the victim was identified as Donavin James Cuevas, 21, of Burton. He suffered a bullet wound to the back of the head/neck area after he and the shooter, a 24-year-old Commerce Township man, had finished playing video games — and the shooting was accidental, the sheriff’s office said.

It happened at approximately 12:25 a.m. April 11 at a residence in the 300 block of Vinona Terrace, the sheriff’s office said. Cuevas was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Commerce Township man taken into custody on Friday in connection with the shooting was released from jail the next day pending further investigation, the sheriff’s office said.

The case will be turned over to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday, the sheriff’s office said.
