Last year’s result: Qualified all three singles players into the individual state tournament.

The tea: The Panthers return their No. 2 and 3 singles players in juniors Botha and Jessie LeBlang. Both of them have moved up a spot this season. Junior Shelby Rosato, meanwhile, takes over at No. 3 singles, while seniors Amiya Vashi and Sara Ishaq make up the team’s top doubles pairing.

Broomfield Eagles
Coach: Melissa McGinness
Last year’s result: Qualified at No. 3 singles for the individual state tournament.
Testing 1-2-3: Layla Zainy is back after she made the individual state tournament at No. 3 singles last spring. She started the season with two matches at No. 3 singles and one match at the No. 2 spot.
The tea: Senior Hallie Won leads the Eagles’ returning players and is back at No. 1 singles to start the season. Below her, Zainy and Ada Walker, a No. 1 doubles player a year ago, have split time between the 2 and 3 singles spots.
Erie Tigers

The tea: A few of Erie’s strong doubles players are making the move to singles play this spring. Owens is at No. 1 singles to start the year after playing No. 2 doubles last spring. Addie Rice and Brooke Jordan, No. 3 doubles players a year ago, are currently at No. 2 and 3 singles, respectively. Around them, the team is made up of eight players who are new to varsity.
Fairview Knights
Coach: Tanya Cumalat
Last year’s result: Reached the quarterfinals of the Class 5A dual state tournament. Qualified all singles lines as well as their No. 1 and 2 doubles into the individual state tournament.
Testing 1-2-3: Stella Laird is back at No. 1 singles after she placed fourth at the state tournament last year. She could be a state contender this spring.
The tea: The Knights graduated five players who were atop their 2024 lineup, including No. 2 singles champ Jane Roth and No. 3 singles runner-up Maya Brakhage. But they return their ace in Laird, as well as No. 1 doubles player Joana Volkamer-Pastor and No. 2 doubles player Bella Pope, who each won a match at the state tournament. Coach Cumalat said with so many losses from their ’24 team, she initially thought this would be a rebuilding year. Then she saw the incoming talent and the strides made by her returners, she said.
Legacy Lightning
Coach: Jeffrey Zinke
Last season’s result: Qualified three lines for the individual state tournament and reached the first round of the team tournament.
Testing 1-2-3: Sophomore Kat Tran takes over at the 1 singles position after qualifying for the state tournament at 2s last year, and Zinke describes her as a “feisty player” with great strokes and great talent.
The tea: The Lightning return all four of their state qualifiers as junior Macy Black (now 2 singles) swapped places with Tran. Senior Megan Anthony (1 doubles) split up with her state-qualifying 2 doubles partner from last year, senior Leah Kirkpatrick, and is now teaming up with senior Addie Lee, while Kirkpatrick holds steady at 2 doubles with sophomore Claire Tsai.

Testing 1-2-3: The Golden Eagles have four foreign-exchange students and 20 who have never played competitive tennis on roster, their second-year coach said.
The tea: The Golden Eagles return four varsity players from last season. Senior Beyonce Catrejon played at No. 3 singles a year ago. Classmates Anastaisha Rivera-Villarreal, Jasmine Garcia-Garcia and Kate Greiner played doubles. Early this season, meanwhile, another senior, Maria Pintori, is playing at No. 2 singles.
Mead Mavericks
Coach: Ben Holskin
Last season’s result: No state qualifiers.
Testing 1-2-3: Senior Payton Crispin fell just short of qualifying for the state tournament at 3 singles last season.
The tea: Holskin hopes to see the team improve from last year, but the Mavericks have a deep pool of 50-plus players to choose from for their starting 11. He believes that Crispin, sophomore singles player Maya Crotser and JV-turned-varsity doubles players Sierra Hale and Ellie Steel will give the team a great boost.
Region 5
Teams: Centaurus, Longmont, Monarch, Niwot, Silver Creek, Skyline, Standley Lake and Thornton.
Centaurus Warriors
Coach: Julie Daniel
Last year’s result: No returning state qualifiers.
Testing 1-2-3: Sophomore Lucy Piccolini is back at No. 1 singles after going 5-7 in the top spot last season, per MaxPreps.
The tea: Daniel, in her 10th season ahead of the program, is excited about the continued growth of her squad in 2025: the “program continues to strengthen and deepen.” Up top, Piccolini will look to make a step from her freshman to sophomore season. Last year, the Warriors had three different players play No. 1 singles matches, including grad Peyton Larsen and senior Elliott Mickelberry, a standout volleyball player.
Longmont Trojans
Coach: Cade Kloster
Last season’s result: Then-seniors Stella Rulon (2 singles) and Addison Engelking (3s) qualified for the individual state tournament.
Testing 1-2-3: The Trojans will be led by their trio of seniors — Caroline Pomeroy (2 singles), Kaila Patterson (1 doubles) and Kaylin Kroeger (1 doubles).
The tea: Longmont returns eight of last year’s roster of 11, save for its two state qualifiers, and Kloster said his ladies return motivated. Along with the seniors, sophomore Jill Uppdegraff (1 singles) and Sylvie Wilcox (3 singles) will round out the top of the ticket.
Monarch Coyotes
Coach: Billy Downs
Last season’s result: Did not qualify for state or individual state tournaments.
Testing 1-2-3: Senior Ishani Pandey returns at the top of the ticket after finishing with a 5-3 record last year. Downs noted that she has “jumped a level” since then, and expects a deep individual state tournament run out of her.
The tea: The Coyotes’ drop down from 5A has Downs believing that his girls can qualify for and succeed at the state tournament come May. He said that his freshman 2 doubles pair, Quinn Sartell and Hannah Corujo, have added extra depth to the squad.
Niwot Cougars
Coach: Aimee Hites
Last season’s result: Reached the first round of the team state tournament.
Testing 1-2-3: Senior Saha Kolli reached the No. 1 singles semifinals of the individual state tournament last year, then eventually finished third.

Testing 1-2-3: Senior Katie Reitz has held the 1 singles spot for the past three years, and finished with a 5-3 record last year.
The tea: Last year’s state qualifiers moved up to the 1 doubles spot and will serve as leaders for a team that graduated five varsity players from last year. Whiteley said she looks forward to seeing her team’s improvement on their newly-resurfaced home courts.
Skyline Falcons
Coach: Jake Hensch
Last season’s result: No state qualifiers.
Testing 1-2-3: Senior August Muncy will take on the challenge of moving up to 1 singles from 1 doubles for her final season with the Falcons.
The tea: The Falcons look to close the experience gap between their program and others within Longmont, and will turn to Muncy, senior Gabriela Garcia Pantoja (2 singles) and junior Sophia Garcia, who Hensch said is “brand new to competitive tennis, shows promise in development.”
Class 3A
Region 2
Teams: Holy Family, Justice, Prospect Ridge Academy, Skyview and Wheat Ridge.
Holy Family Tigers
Coach: John Alderman

Testing 1-2-3: Annabelle Kenny, a senior, is the No. 1 singles player after she finished 3A runner-up at 2 singles a year ago.
The tea: The Tigers return five players who qualified for the individual state tournament in 2024. Lauren Stonehocker, who, not long ago was a ball girl at the U.S. Open, is back after being part of a state runner-up at No. 1 doubles. She’s the No. 2 singles player and Raelynn Pickup, a ’24 No. 3 doubles champ, is at No. 3 singles. The tea: “We hope to build upon one of our most competitive seasons yet, with wins in the talented Metro League and solid showings at tournaments, including at Holy Family and Longmont,” Finkelstein said. He believes that his singles players, along with juniors Zerren Lutska and Yazhini Godwin Sahayaraj, can help them get there.
Region 5
Teams: Berthoud, Brush, Dawson, Fort Lupton, Peak to Peak and University.
Dawson Mustangs
Coach: Lisa Christie
Last year’s result: Reached the quarterfinals of the Class 3A team state tournament and qualified seven lines into the individual state tournament.
Testing 1-2-3: Isabelle Jacobsma returns after she placed fourth at the 3A state tournament a year ago.
The tea: The Mustangs return seven state qualifiers, including their top two singles players from 2024 in Jacobsma and Mia Jones. Olivia Kirby is new to the team and is expected to play at No. 2 singles. Sophomore Soraya Payvar is back after she swung between doubles and No. 3 singles a year ago. And so is Caitlyn Budacz-Kauflin, who helped lead the No. 1 doubles team to the 3A quarterfinals.
Peak to Peak Pumas
Coach: Mike Crotty

The tea: The Pumas have set their sights on winning team and individual state titles with nine of last year’s varsity players returning. Seniors Sydney Lewis (2 singles) and Ranye Ezenekwe (3 singles) hope to win individual golds alongside junior 2 doubles pair Molly Kolachov and Sydney Parkinson, who won it all last year.
