Local sports bars welcome Cubs fans with specials
Die-hards can watch World Series in favorite pubs

Can't swing the thousands of dollars it costs for a World Series ticket? Still want to cheer on the Cubbies in a Friendly Confines? Check out the specials being offered at locals bars and restaurants during game times.
The Old Tinley Pub showed its North Side colors way back before the Cubs were good. “We've always been a Cubs bar on the South Side for a long time,” owner Cathy Ivanelli said. “We do have a majority of Sox fans here but that makes it a lot of fun. We're pretty excited here. We've had some great turnouts and people are interested in actually watching the games.”
The pub is giving away free hot dogs during World Series games and each day it will feature a different drink special.
Open late during all Series games, Bartolini's will offer half-price pizzas during game times, co-owner Chris Bartolini said. A new bar area features 28 seats with nine TVs and 16 beers on tap, four of them locally brewed.
Manager Dottie Zietara said the Series is “great for Chicago. It doesn't matter who you're a fan of, it's the town that matters. And it's been so long for these poor people, for this poor team.”
Specials will include Old Style in bottles, Goose Island in cans for $4 and a Cubbie Cabernet for $5 a glass. Food specials include Ballpark hot dogs and mini beer cheeseburgers, both served with tater tots, she said.
This traditional Blackhawks bar is expecting a sea of Cubbie blue over the next week. Specials during Series games will include $2 domestic drinks, $3 well drinks and $3 Fireball shots, owner Marie Joyce said.
Lemont, it turns out, has a fair number of Cubs fans. And many of them have been known to stop in at Nick's, general manager Matt Westergren said. “We've been a Cubs bar for 71 years. The original owners were huge Cubs fans. The gentlemen who own it now are Chicago fans,” he said. So if it's friends you want to hang with, head to Nick's. Westergren said specials include $3 hot dogs with chips during the games and $1 16-ounce Old Styles all day on game days.
If you think the Cubs will be swinging for the fences, head to McDivot's, where they'll be offering penny shots for every Cubs home run, said general manager Danielle Companio. Other specials include 99 cents pints during Happy Hour Tuesday and Wednesday, half-price appetizers Friday and Monday, and $4 IPA offerings on Saturday.
General manager Amy Cutio said, in addition to regular specials, during Series games, Legends will offer a $4 brat and french fries meal and a $5 Cub-tini, a martini layered in red, white and blue.
In addition to its regular daily specials, the Blarney Stone will feature all day $10 buckets of Bud beer on game days. During the games, it will offer $10 14-inch one-ingredient pizzas, said manager Tracy Spellman.
Yes, Cork and Kerry has a sister location deep in the heart of White Sox territory. And yes, many of the patrons who visit the Beverly location are indeed Sox fans. But bartender Jolene McCormick says Cubs fans are always welcome, and most especially during this week's long-awaited World Series. To prove it, the bar is offering $2 PBR on draft, Jameson shots for $4 and $3 Budweisers.
Owner Bill Pappas said drink specials during World Series games range from $9 Stella and $5 Bud Light pitchers on Wednesday to $10 well vodka pitchers and $3.50 16-ounce cans of Goose Island on Friday. Saturday brings $1.50 Bud Light pitchers and Sunday will feature $5 Bloody Marys and $13 domestic buckets. Food specials during games include 60-cent wings Wednesday, half-price appetizers Friday and $1 tacos Saturday, he said.
