The Oak Forest City Council approved a five-year contract Tuesday with a company that will replace the city’s old photocopy machines with a more modern multifunction device in a deal officials said would also save the city money.
The council voted 5-0, with Ald. Laura Gray and Denise Danihel absent, in favor of a contract with Proven IT. The city will pay the firm $54,720 for the five years of the deal.
Interim City Administrator Colleen Julian said the city will pay $912 per month, compared with the $1,169.16 it was paying as part of the current copier services contract.
Julian also said the new Canon Imagerunner Advance 5550III has the advantage of serving not only as a photocopy machine, but also as a computer printer and a photo scanner.
Ald. Paul Selman, 4th Ward, said he’s amazed the city was able to get an improved device at a cheaper cost.
“I was impressed we were able to get a better machine at a lesser cost,” he said.
Mayor Henry Kuspa said, “This is a nice touch.”
Julian said the new copier will replace the machine that was one of the heaviest-used within city government.
She said it will handle printouts of water bills and daily print copies of city administration documents.
The council also voted, without opposition, to approve the hiring of Paul Ruane, who will be the new city planner for Oak Forest.
