


Sauk Village, Ill.
Bail was denied Monday for a Hammond man charged with first-degree murder after an alleged drug deal went bad in Sauk Village.
Calviontae Washington, 22, was charged in the shooting death of Orlando Dillard, 20, also of Hammond, according to prosecutors at the Markham, Ill., courthouse.
The pair met at 1:18 p.m. Friday in the 21000 block of Carol Avenue in Sauk Village.
Dillard was sitting in the driver’s seat of a vehicle.
Washington entered the passenger side of the vehicle and pointed a gun at him, prosecutors said.
A struggle between the two men ensued, and the gun fired, officials said.
Upon hearing the shot, another man approached the vehicle, shooting at Dillard through the windshield and the driver’s side door, according to prosecutors.
Washington and the other shooter fled in another car.
Neither the second shooter nor the driver of the getaway vehicle have been found.
Washington turned himself into police, prosecutors said.
Dillard was found lying next to the parked car.
There was blood on his seat, the center console and the back seat. There also were 40-calliber bullets inside and outside of the vehicle, prosecutors said.
A 40-caliber handgun registered to Washington was found inside the car as well as the victim’s cellphone, which confirmed the meeting, prosecutors said.
The second shooter also is thought to have used a 40-calliber handgun.
The drug deal involved the sale of cannabis, according to prosecutors.
Washington is a graduate of Eisenhower High School in Blue Island, Ill.
His next court date is 9 a.m. June 11 in Markham.
