Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel E. Bowser and Ted Leonsis, owner of the NBA’s Wizards and NHL’s Capitals, finalized a deal Wednesday that — if approved by the city council —will keep the teams downtown until 2050, ending a planned move to northern Virginia.

The city will spend $515 million over three years to help Leonsis modernize the Capital One Arena and the owner would sign a new lease.

Baseball: The Dodgers and C Will Smith agreed to a 10-year, $140 million contract extension. Smith, who turns 29 on Friday, was due to hit free agency following the 2025 season.

Colleges: NCAA President Charlie Baker is urging states with legal wagering on sporting events to ban betting on individual player performances. Prop bets allow gamblers to wager on stats a player will accumulate during a game. The NBA has opened an investigation into Raptors two-way player Jontay Porter amid gambling allegations related to his own performance in individual games. Ohio, Vermont and Maryland already ban prop bets on college athletes.

NFL: Free agent pass-rusher Jadeveon Clowney agreed to a contract with the Panthers. ESPN reported that the deal for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 draft, is for up to $24 million.
