



Senior Kayla Fullalove-Silveira and sophomore Ava Alvarado each homered for the third straight game, and Monte Vista Christian School’s softball team beat Santa Cruz 15-4 in the teams’ nonleague contest, which was called on the 10-run rule after five innings on Monday.
Fullalove-Silveira has nine home runs on the season and is tied for the Central Coast Section lead with Monterey’s Denae Lee, according to maxpreps.com. Alvarado has four homers.
Eight of the Mustangs’ 12 hits went for extra bases.
Fullalove-Silveira finished with two extra-base hits, three RBI, and three runs scored. Alvarado also doubled and finished with three hits, four RBI, and two runs scored.
Samantha Bertoldi homered in her second straight game and has seven on the season. She finished with two hits, three RBI, and scored three runs. Sophia Cortez doubled, had two RBI, and scored twice. Gianna Johnson tripled, had one RBI, and scored twice. Juliana Lopez had one hit, two RBI, and scored a run.
Molly Pisciotta and Ellia Dunton each had two hits, with a double, and a run scored for the Cardinals. Dunton also drove in a run. Tezdyn Medina-Mates had a hit, one RBI, and a run scored.
Johnson earned the complete-game win. She gave up four hits, four unearned runs, and struck out six batters.
On Tuesday at 4:30 p.m., MVC (10-13, 3-10) hosts Rancho San Juan (5-9, 4-8) in Pacific Coast Athletic League Mission Division play, while Santa Cruz (7-11, 5-4) hosts Soquel in Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League action.
At Scotts Valley 12, Soquel 2: 5 inn. >> The Falcons smacked 17 hits in their SCCAL make-up game Monday, which was called after five innings on the 10-run rule.
Gracie Delgado had three hits and four RBI for the Falcons (16-5-1, 9-1), who are ranked No. 23 in the CCS by maxpreps.com, making them Santa Cruz County’s top ranked team.
Natalie Murray-Skalland had two hits, including a two-run home run, and finished with three RBI. Lorelei Warner had three hits and a walk
Winning pitcher Sofie Seese have up two hits and two runs, one earned, over five innings. She struck out four batters with no walks.
The Knights play at Santa Cruz in SCCAL action on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
Boys tennis
CCS playoffs >> Soquel didn’t receive one of the eight seeds given out in the 24-team CCS Team Tournament, but it did receive a favorable draw for the first round.
The SCCAL champion Knight host unseeded Burlingame in the opening round at Imperial Courts in Aptos on Tuesday at 4 p.m. The winner faces No. 2 Harker (12-3) at Del Mar High in San Jose in Friday’s second round at 4 p.m.
The other top seeds were No. 1 Menlo (22-1), No. 3 Saratoga (11-2), and No. 4 Homestead (13-5).
The quarterfinals will be held Monday, semifinals on May 14 at 1 p.m. and finals on May 16. The semifinals will be held at at either Bay Club Courtside in Los Gatos or Los Gatos Swim & Racquet, and the final will be held at Bay Club Courtside.
Seeds were also given for the singles and doubles tournaments, which will be held at Imperial Courts in Aptos.
SCCAL singles champion Hudson Ward of Soquel faces No. 2 Arjun Krishnan of Lynbrook in the first round on May 20 at 10 a.m.
The winner of the Ward-Krishnan match faces either Sobrato’s Aarnav Admala or Sacred Heart Prep’s Kyle Chai in the quarterfinals on May 20.
Saratoga’s Somei Ogata is the No. 1 seed, Saint Francis of Mountain View’s Shiven Mehta is No. 3, and Archbishop Mitty’s Alexander Sanford is No. 4.
The singles semifinals and final take place May 22 at Imperial Courts, beginning at 1 p.m.
SCCAL champion Benja Bellito and Torin Miller face No. 4 Devin Stuppin and Marco Magnano of Saint Ignatius in the first round of the doubles competition on May 21 at 10 a.m. The winner faces either Branham’s Ian Kwon and Brian Liu or Carmel’s Grayson Walton and Georges Guerree in the second round on May 21.
Menlo’s Yuanye Ma and Ben Levin are the No. 1 seed, Saratoga’s Nikhil Srivatsa and Akiva Goldwasser are No. 2, and Naveen Mukherjee and Cyrus Ghaffari are No. 3.
The doubles semifinals and final take place May 22 at Imperial Courts, beginning at 1 p.m.
College commitment
Flag football >> Watsonville senior Brianna Leon will compete for NAIA program La Sierra University in Riverside next season. The Golden Eagles will play their inaugural season in 2025-26 under coach Brianne Talboom. Leon was scheduled to sign her paperwork at Watsonville’s Goicovich Gym on Tuesday evening, after the Sentinel went to press.
Leon, a 5-foot-5 wide receiver and defensive back, competed in the inaugural Central Coast Flag Football All-Star Game at Santa Cruz High in January.
Girls lacrosse
At Soquel 12, Santa Cruz 5 >> Senior attacker Reilly Kerko had six goals and two forced turnovers to help the Knights win their regular-season finale Monday.
Junior midfielder Addie Somerville had three goals, four draw controls, and two forced turnovers for the Knights. Sophomore attacker Ashby Weeks had two goals, two assists, and two forced turnovers. Junior midfielder Ayla Hymes also scored a goal. Freshman defenseman Margot Rawlings had an assist.
Freshman goalie Gianna Williams made 10 saves for the Knights.
Senior Maddie McGrath and junior Eva Pohlman each scored twice for the Cardinals. Junior Julia Lombrozo also scored.
Freshman goalie Sydney White made four saves, and teammate Ben Sommerville made two saves.
Boys lacrosse
Soquel 12, Hollister 2 >> Jed Del Favero scored five goals in the Knights’ PCAL win Monday.
Tanner Trowbridge had four goals and two assists for the Knights. Zachary Beckman-Stevens scored twice, and Devin De La Rosa added a goal.
Goalie Daniel Bjorn made 10 saves for the Knights (6-10, 0-9), who close their season at Carmel on Thursday at 3:15 p.m.
Surfing
ISA World Junior Championship team >> Santa Cruz’s Brody Price was named to USA Surfing’s 2025 ISA World Junior Championship team. He’s joined on the Team USA’s U16 boys team by Huntington Beach’s Makai Castle and San Clemente’s King Nicol.
Price returns for his second ISA appearance after delivering standout performances in 2024.
The ISA World Junior Championship location and dates will be announced by ISA in the next few months. USA Surfing will host training camps and team development events in the lead-up to competition.
Women’s tennis
Christopher Newport 4, UC Santa Cruz 1 >> Natalie Sprenger won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4 singles for the Banana Slugs’ lone win in the Coast-To-Coast Conference Championship in Newport News, Virginia, on Sunday.
The Captains won a pair of doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead.
UCSC’s Sara Beckman and Meghana Damojipurapu each suffered three-set losses in singles action.
