Five local teams qualified for the Central Coast Section water polo playoffs, and all five will play their quarterfinal matches in Santa Cruz County on Saturday, it was determined at Monday’s section seeding meetings in San Jose.

In girls action, Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League champion Soquel earned the No. 2 seed in the prestigious Open Division behind Sacred Heart Prep of Atherton.

The Knights host No. 7 St. Ignatius (12-15) of San Francisco at 1 p.m.

“We’re definitely focused and ready to take on what’s in front of us,” said Knights coach Shelby White, on competing in the Open Division. “We’re hungry for it. We’re young, but we could make a difference up there.”

If Soquel wins its opener, it’ll face either No. 6 Menlo (11-11) or No. 3 Stevenson (18-8) — which square of Saturday at Aptos High at 1 p.m. — in Tuesday’s semifinals. The site and time are TBA.

Aptos, the co-runner-up in the SCCAL with Santa Cruz, and the SCCAL Tournament finalist, earned the No. 1 seed in Division II, and hosts No. 8 Santa Catalina (15-8) at 2:30 p.m.

No. 2 Santa Cruz (12-8), which tied the Mariners for second in the SCCAL, will face No. 7 Castilleja (13-11) at Aptos High at 10 a.m.

If the Cardinals win their opener, they’ll face either No. 6 Pioneer (18-8) or No. 3 Harker (19-8) in Tuesday’s semifinals, at a site and time to be announced.

If the Mariners win their opener, they’ll face either No. 5 Willow Glen (10-10) or No. 4 Valley Christian (11-15) in Tuesday’s semifinals, at a site and time to be announced.

In boys action, SCCAL champion Santa Cruz (19-5) earned the No. 5 seed in the Open Division. The Cardinals play No. 4 Menlo (18-9) at Aptos High at 11:30 a.m.

If the Cardinals win their opener, they’ll face either No. 3 Stevenson (18-8) or No. 1 Sacred Heart Prep (16-10) in Wednesday’s semifinals, at a site and time TBA.

In other quarterfinals, No. 6 Harker (17-8) faces No. 3 Bellarmine (15-11), and No. 7 Los Gatos (18-7) faces No. 2 Saint Francis (20-7) of Mountain View.

Soquel (18-7), the SCCAL Tournament champion and the defending CCS D-II champion, begins its title defense against No. 8 Willow Glen (13-11) at 2:30 p.m.

In other quarterfinals, No. 6 Carmel (19-6) faces No. 3 Pioneer (20-6) at Soquel at 10 a.m., and No. 7 Stevenson (12-13) faces No. 2 Leland (15-9) at Soquel at 11:30 a.m.

La Marginal Surfing Pro >> Former Capitola resident Olivia Storrer tied for third place at the World Surf League’s La Marginal Surfing Pro, a Qualifying Series 3,000-point event, in La Marginal, Arecibo, Puerto Rico on Sunday.

Storrer earned 1,825 points and $2,000 for her finish. She was eliminated by Barbados’ Chelsea Tuach 11.34-5.10 in the semifinals.

Costa Rica’s Leilani McGonagle beat Tuach 12.76-11.04 in the women’s final. Ventura’s Dimitri Poulos edged Malibu’s Taro Watanabe 15.90-15.17 in the men’s final.

Women’s basketball

At Santa Barbara 67, Cabrillo 56 >> Sydney Chesnut had 16 points and three rebounds, but the Seahawks lost their nonconference game Sunday.

Seahawks sophomore guard Jade Crum came off the bench and had 15 points, six rebounds, and two steals in 25 minutes. Gabby Brooks scored 11 points for the Seahawks, who trailed 26-22 at the half.

Forward Isis Poteet had 14 points and seven rebounds for the Vaqueros (2-0). Guard/forward Aariah Fox had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Cbarillo (0-2) hosts American River (0-1) on Friday at 3 p.m.
