Oakland County Veterans Services to host “How to Market your Business for Veterans” training program from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, May 9, at the Clarkston American Legion Post 377, at 4819 Mary Sue Ave., Independence Twp.

This startup business training program is specifically designed to empower veterans with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed and teaches how to market a veteran business through social media, print, TV and radio.

Led by experienced mentors, the training will provide a checklist of action items to accomplish in order to get a veteran business off the ground.

Veterans bring a set of unique challenges and strengths to the table. This program is tailored to leverage those strengths while addressing any gaps in knowledge or experience. Lunch will be served at noon.

The training is free, but veterans must register at: www.eventbrite.com/e/how-to-market-your-business-for-veterans-tickets-867391410057.

Holly Area Veterans Resource Center announces new location

The Holly Area Veterans Resource Center (HAVRC) is moving to a new location. The HAVRC offices will be located at the Holly Church of the Nazarene, because the Karl Richter Campus is being torn down to make way for the new Holly middle school.

The HAVRC has been located at the Karl Richter Campus since its inception 10 years ago.

The Holly Church of the Nazarene is nearby at 961 E. Maple Street in Holly.

The Vietnam Veterans of America Service Officer, Katrina Gramer, has began working out of the church. She will be there Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Katrina is an accredited service officer who can handle claims for veterans and their families. She is a U.S. Navy veteran and a Navy mom. To reach Katrina, call her at 810-623-8002, or email her at Katrina.Gramer@va.gov or kberger.VSO@outlook.com.

The directors of HAVRC will begin formal operations at the church from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 30 and Wednesday, May 1. Appointments are preferred, but walk-ins are always welcome. Veterans should bring discharge papers and ID.

To contact the Holly Area Veterans Resource Center, call Joe at 810-348-9960, or Ray at 248-883-1406, or email havrc1@gmail.com or jmm1967@comcast.net.

“The Holly Area Veterans Resource Center is in its 10th year, and we help veterans with their questions and issues,” said co-director Joe Mishler.

“Come see us at our new location. We also have on-going veterans projects, which will not be affected by the move. We are also continuing our Home Town Heroes project. If you know someone who is going into the service or coming out of the service, contact us and we will organize an event at the Home Town Hero’s Tree in front of Holly Elementary.”

Our Vet-to-Vet Dinner will continue at American Legion Post 149, at 408 S. Saginaw St. in Holly on the third Monday of every month and starts at 5:30 p.m. with a free meal. Veterans and their families are welcome.”
