She had suffered a stroke earlier in the week from which she did not recover. Diane died in her sleep with several of her good friends by her side. Diane had an early interest in the Spanish language and culture.

Following graduation from Boulder High School in1967 she spent the summer in Toluca, Mexico, that initiated a lifetime of travel and living abroad. Diane attended Lindenwood College (Missouri) between summers and semesters in Mexico and Spain. She obtained a master's degree in Spanish Language and Literature in1974 from Middlebury College when often traveling abroad, then continued to study Romance Languages and Literature with New York University while living in Madrid. Diane had established a residence in Madrid in the 1970's and was a teacher of adolescent and younger students for the British Council while continuing her studies from NYU. She continued her travels around greater Europe, continued to study Spanish cultural history and literature, and continued teaching students for nearly 40 years. Diane focused her years of study in 2009 at the Universidad de León (León, Spain) in 2009 and attained a long-desired goal of a PhD of Spanish Literature in 2013. She is survived by niece Danielle Beeson and children Kimana Hesser, Marley Hesser, and Aviel Hesser (Loveland, CO), a niece Teresa Mastracchio (Tony) and children Aly and Sam (Libertyville, IL), and brother David.

Diane set a good example for others to follow and kept in touch with many friends here in the United States during her nearly 50 years of living abroad.

She will be greatly missed by her friends from Boulder and her family of students, friends, and colleagues in Madrid. A celebration of Diane's life will be held in Boulder at a time to be announced later in 2025.
