Antioch
It is with great sadness that the Perez family announces the passing of their loving mother Magdalena (Maggie) Perez on April 4th, 2025 at the age of 94 years old. Maggie passed peacefully in her sleep at home with her family by her side.
Maggie was born on Sept 27th, 1930 to Soledad and Lourdes Gonzales in Larned, Kansas. She dearly loved her large, happy family that included six sisters and two brothers. Her family moved to 429 Front St in Pittsburg, Ca in 1936. She joked that she was the unofficial historian of the neighborhood and loved to tell stories of her diverse little community describing all the colorful cast of characters. Maggie graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1948.
A life long learner, she earned an Associate of Arts Degree from Los Medanos College in the early 1980’s. Maggie worked for many years at Tillie Lewis Foods in Antioch and Modesto, and for State Farm Insurance. She also taught CCD classes at Holy Rosary Church.
Maggie was a voracious reader who loved anything from the classics to contemporary novels. Maggie always had aqueue of books to be read next to her chair. She delighted in spending hours completing both the Chronicle and East Bay Times crossword puzzles. A passion she continued to perform up to her passing. When we remember Maggie, one image that our family will hold dear is of her in the evening, in her chair, under the lamp, diligently working her puzzles. Always in pen.
In 1948 she married the love of her life, Albert (Beto) Perez, and moved to Antioch,Ca where they started a family. During this time she devoted herself to raising her children Joanne, Don, Carl, Victor and John. Maggie was a nurturing, caring, and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother to her children, 9 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren. Maggie believed she lived a good long life with much more joys than sorrows.
Maggie is survived by her daughter Joanne Morua, sons Don Perez, Carl Perez, Victor Perez (Diane), and John Perez (Shannon). She is preceded in death by her loving husband Albert Perez, infant son Albert Jr, daughter-in-law- Nancy Marie Perez and son-in-law Joe Morua.
