OAKLAND >> One man was fatally shot in West Oakland and another man was injured near Lake Merritt in separate shootings Sunday, authorities said.
The fatal shooting, which claimed the life of a 50-year-old man, happened about 7:15 p.m. Sunday in the 3200 block of Filbert Street near San Pablo Avenue.
The man, whose name has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the scene despite emergency life-saving care provided by officers.
A motive for the shooting is under investigation. No arrests have been made.
Shortly after 6 p.m., police responded to calls reporting a possible shooting in the 500 block of Bellevue Avenue near the lake.
When officers arrived, they found evidence of an apparent shooting but no sign of an injured person.
Soon after, officers learned a 27-year-old Oakland man suffering from a gunshot wound to his shoulder managed to get a ride to a hospital for treatment. He was later listed in stable condition, police said.
Police said the man was with a group of people standing outside when someone began shooting at them. The 27-year-old man was the only one wounded.
At least one parked vehicle was also hit by gunfire but no other injuries were reported.
Police don’t have a motive for the shooting and are trying to determine if the 27-year-old man was the intended target. No arrests have been made.
The fatal shooting is the 26th homicide investigated by Oakland police this year. The California Highway Patrol has investigated one homicide on city freeways. Last year at this time, Oakland police had investigated 34 homicides in the city.
Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the suspect in the homicide and up to $5,000 in the Bellevue Avenue shooting.
