Minus some of their top contributors, the Santa Cruz Warriors turned in a golden performance in their 146-132 win over the Grand Rapids Gold in front of 2,476 fans at the teams’ NBA G League game at Kaiser Permanente Arena on Saturday night.

Javan Johnson threw down a dunk with the shot clock off to cap scoring, giving him a game-high 36 points, and Santa Cruz finished with a season-high point total. Guard Yuri Collins finished with a career-high 29 points and added 13 assists and four rebounds.

The Warriors, playing without Kevin Knox II, Quinten Post, Pat Spencer, and Jackson Rowe, trailed by 17 points in the first half.

It was a team effort, and the Warriors (9-5 overall) finished with seven players reaching double digits in scoring, including three players with double-doubles, Donta Scott, Seth Maxwell, and Collins.

Scott had 18 points and 10 rebounds, and Maxwell, who has improved his offensive output over the past week, had 14 points and 10 rebounds before fouling out.

Santa Cruz shot 53.6% (52 of 97), made 14 3-pointers, pulled down 50 rebounds, and had 31 assists against just 10 turnovers.

Blake Hinson had 19 points, seven rebounds, and four assists for Santa Cruz. Reserve Cameron Parker had 13 points and eight assists, and Marcus Burk also came off the bench and chipped in with 11 points.

Even center Cheikh Mbacke Diong, whose signing from the available player pool was announced earlier in the day, got into the act. He finished with six points and four rebounds in his Warriors’ debut.

Guard Jahmir Young had 33 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists to lead the Gold (7-9). Forward Tevian Jones had 30 points, five steals, and four rebounds. Deante Johnson scored 20 points after coming off the bench.

Andrew Funk (16 points and 10 rebounds), center Charles Bediako (14 points and six rebounds), and reserve Joey Baker (11 points and eight rebounds) also reached double digits in points for the Gold.

Santa Cruz is tied for second place in the Western Conference with the Austin Spurs (9-5), three games behind leader Stockton (13-3).

The Warriors play at the Sioux Falls Skyforce (7-7) in South Dakota on Tuesday, but return to Santa Cruz to kick off a 10-game homestand beginning Friday.

Boys wrestling

Colt Invitational >> Harbor senior August Bentley (140 pounds) took first place in his weight division at the 15th annual Colt Invitational at El Camino High in South San Francisco on Saturday.

Bentley earned a 13-3 major decision over Sequoia senior Andre Gagnon in the final to finish 5-0 with three first-period pins and two major decisions. Bentley (25-8 overall), the No. 8 seed, upset No. 1 John Reg, a senior at Jesse Bethel, 19-8 in the quarterfinals.

Aptos sophomore Cole Moules (152) and junior teammate Alexander Jimenez (177) took fourth. Harbor sophomore Charlie Shirmer (152) took sixth. Pirates freshman Mateo Moreno (115) took seventh, and Aptos senior Xavier Maciel (134) took eighth.

Gilroy (179.0 points) took first out of 39 teams. Saint Francis (168.0) of Mountain View took second, and Junipero Serra (148.5) of San Mateo took third. Harbor (55.5) brought three wrestlers and took 18th. Aptos (49.5) took 24th.

Girls wrestling

Judy Rider Memorial >> Watsonville senior Martha Zurita (130 pounds) took third place in her weight division at the Judy Rider Memorial at Hollister High on Saturday.

Zurita pinned Madera South sophomore Angel Peralta in the second period of her final match to finish 4-1 with three pins and a major decision. He lone loss came to No. 1 seed and eventual champion Mia McMillen, a senior at Sanger West, in the semifinals.

Monterey (168.5 points) won the title in the 32-team event. Wilcox (120.0) of Santa Clara took second, and Sanger (113.5) edged Alisal (112.0) for third. Zurita, Watsonville’s lone entrant, helped the Wildcatz (23.0) take 26th.

Girls soccer

Aptos 3, Woodside 1 >> The Mariners beat the Wildcats, a Central Coast Section semifinalist last season, in their final nonleague game Saturday.

Aptos’ Alexa Castaneda scored on a pass from Emily Santiago in the third minute.

Isabella Hartnett followed up on a deflection off Woodside’s goalkeeper in the 36th minute and carried a 2-0 lead into the half.

Scarlet Stateler finished off a pass from Isabella Graff in the 41st minute.

The Wildcats (6-3-5) scored in the 79th minute.

Goalkeeper Evelyn Pini made two saves for the Mariners (11-2-1, 5-0-1), who play at San Lorenzo Valley (2-10-0, 1-5-0) in Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League action on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.

Men’s basketball

At Christopher Newport 76, UC Santa Cruz 57 >> Junior forward/center Joe Espy had 17 points, 12 rebounds, and two assists, but the Banana Slugs lost their Coast-To-Coast Conference game in Newport News, Virginia, on Saturday.

Junior guard Andrew Ferrara-Jones had 11 points, two rebounds, and two steals for the Banana Slugs (10-11, 0-2), who trailed 38-28 at the half. Senior guard Ryan Wilson had nine points, four assists, and two rebounds.

Sophomore guard Toa Hollenbeck and guard Jahn Hines, a fifth-year student, each scored 17 points to lead the No. 14 ranked Captains (17-4).

UCSC plays Mary Washington (7-11) in Newport News, Virginia, on Sunday at 9 a.m.

College baseball

Cabrillo sweeps doubleheader >> The Seahawks evened their record on the young season with a doubleheader sweep of host Mendocino on Thursday.

The Seahawks smacked 16 hits in a 10-3 win in Game 1. Second baseman Jacob Fiorenza went 5-for-6 batting with four RBI and two runs scored, and first baseman Oscar Knapp had two hits, two RBI, and scored a run.

In Game 2, Cabrillo earned 15 hits in its 8-3 win, which was called after seven innings. Shortstop Nico Hilger and Knapp each had two hits, one RBI, and two runs scored. Designated hitter Malakai DuBreuil had two hits and two RBI, and catcher Truett Ross had two hits and scored twice.

Cabrillo (2-2) plays at Laney (4-1) on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
