With hundreds of bills upending traditional election procedures in more than 40 states, Republicans are accomplishing what they set out to do. Hundreds of election officials are resigning or retiring, fearing for their lives in some cases, or fearing prosecution for decisions they used to make routinely at the polls, like extending hours in emergencies or seeing to the repair of voting equipment. This is leaving the field open for partisans to take over elections. Then we will surely have the fraud they have been yammering about.
Lately, there has been a lot of talk about how much and what kind of history should be taught in our schools and universities. If we believe in honesty, transparency and the true meaning of the word “history,” the answers are simple. On the other hand, if we are afraid of the truth, believe in keeping things hidden and are unwilling to accept a true definition of the word “history,” the answers become more complicated. In simple terms, history is the full story of the past. This includes the greatness and the flaws. If we believe that we should not tell the whole story, let’s not call it history. Let’s call it “Selection 101.” That is, we only share what we want you to know.
It was embarrassing to see an Indiana University student protesting the University’s vaccine mandate say on national TV, “if you got vaccinated, then why should I have to?” I hope she’s not representative of our young people today, but I’m not optimistic that she’s not.
The most respectful thing you can do, if you truly love the American flag, is to stop flying it at night, without a light shining on it. And for heaven’s sake, take down the ripped, torn and filthy flag you have been neglecting for years. Quit calling yourself a patriot and actually do something patriotic. Respect the flag.
Joe Manchin is either the most incredibly naive Senator the chamber has ever seen or he is the biggest liar. In either case, he is a traitor to the Democratic party and should be treated that way. To those who say “but we need his vote,” I say he is using that notion to extort a position of power, and you are not going to get his vote anyway. Don’t kid yourself. His only loyalty is to the Trump supporters of West Virginia and his vote will always to be to mollify them. And the same goes for Kirsten Sinema, except that her loyalty is to the Trump supporters of Arizona.
I think they have intentionally coordinated the stop lights along Route 30 in front of Southlake Mall to make sure that you have to stop at every light. I am sure traffic wizard works for the county or state should be able to resolve this to help with a steady flow of traffic.
At least four mass shootings with five dead and 39 wounded and at least 46 people shot in Chicago. Closer to home, a bank security guard, who was the father of two children, was killed during a robbery. Unfortunately, this is just a typical weekend in America, and the toll will likely rise as more shootings are reported. Between states relaxing restrictions on firearms, and more weapons on the street every day, the situation is going to get worse. It’s going to be a long summer.
