One man was killed and five other people were injured when a speeding car rear-ended a stopped Foothill Transit bus in Pomona on Tuesday night, police said.

It wasn’t clear how fast the car was traveling before the crash, reported around 9:50 p.m.

The bus was stopped at a red light facing westbound on Monterey Avenue at Garey Avenue when a Honda Accord collided with the back of the coach, said Aly Mejia, spokeswoman for the Pomona police.

The Silver Streak bus, bound for Los Angeles, had five passengers on board, said Felicia Friesema, a spokeswoman for Foothill Transit, with all five hospitalized with minor injuries.

The bus driver did not require medical attention.

The car’s driver died at the scene, police said. The medical examiner’s office had not yet identified him.

Pomona police asked anyone with details about the collision to call them at 909-802-7741.
