Weapon in car triggers alert at Aspen Creek PK-8
Aspen Creek PK-8 was placed on secure protocols Friday morning after a parent saw a weapon in a parked vehicle, according a letter sent by Principal Nick Vanderpol to parents.
Police were called to the west parking lot of the school at 5500 Aspen Creek Drive in Broomfield. The school was placed on Secure Standard Response Protocol at 9:02 a.m., during which all activities are brought inside and doors are locked, but normal school activities continue.
Broomfield Police investigated the weapon sighting, and there was found to be no threat to the school or students. The secure order was lifted at 9:48 a.m., and school activities resumed normally.
The adult involved faces charges for improperly storing a firearm, according to the letter.

CU Boulder to host Colorado Clarinet Day
The University of Colorado Boulder will host four university music departments for Colorado Clarinet Day, beginning at 9 a.m. today at the Imig Music Building, 1020 18th St.
Colorado Clarinet Day brings together clarinet programs from Colorado’s four major Front Range university music departments: CU Boulder, Colorado State University, the University of Northern Colorado and the University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music. This annual celebration features workshops, exhibits, guest lectures and recitals.
Tickets are between $15 and $25 for the event. However, the 10:30 a.m. and 6:45 p.m. recitals are free, no tickets are required.

Caribou Ranch applications open for artist-in-residence slots
Any artist can apply for Boulder County Parks and Open Space’s recently opened 2025 Artist-in-Residence program for Caribou Ranch.
Applications are open until Feb. 17 for people who want to practice their art surrounded by the natural wonders of the mountains. Caribou Ranch was formerly a nationally known recording studio area near Nederland.
Artists chosen for the program can stay in the DeLonde Barn at Caribou Ranch for up to four days and three nights at any point from mid-July to September. Musicians, painters, sculptors, authors, filmographers, and artisans are among the artists that will be considered under the Boulder County government requirements.
