August Block’s solo home run and Wyatt Koening’s sterling day on the mound helped Archie Williams High to a crucial 2-0 home victory over Tam on Thursday.

The loss by Tam (16-6, 11-3 MCAL) means the Red-tailed Hawks must sweep next week’s home-and-home series with first-place San Marin (14-7, 12-1) to take first place. The Peregrine Falcons (12-9, 8-6 MCAL) are tied for third with Redwood entering the final week of the season with a pair of games against Marin Catholic.

Senior Jack Evans brought sophomore Solly Ojalvo around on a base hit to left field for the Peregrine Falcons’ opening score in the third inning. Ojalvo was hit by a pitch and stole second on a wild pitch before advancing to third on a fly ball to right field from senior Mason Tongnopneua.

Block led off the fourth inning with a powerful shot for his fourth homer of the season to give Archie Williams a 2-0 lead. Senior Arlo Maury also had a base hit for the Falcons.

Koenig held the Red-tailed Hawks to just four hits, while dealing three strikeouts in the complete-game win. Koening worked out of a bases-loaded jam with two outs in the top of the fifth inning, then gave up just one more hit, a double by Tam senior Will Gensler to lead off the seventh inning.

Tam starter Eli Solem struck out eight batters and walked one during a stout effort, but gave up two runs on four hits through five innings.

Solem, Tito Fierstein and Cole Kramlich each had a base hit for the Hawks.
