SAN JOSE >> An SUV driver hit and killed a pedestrian on a residential street near Coyote Creek early Wednesday, police said.

The collision was reported at 6:34 a.m. at Sherlock and Kimball drives, according to San Jose police. The location is about a block east of Stonegate Park and the northwestern end of the Los Lagos Golf Course.

Police said an initial investigation found that a man driving a black 2004 GMC SUV was going northbound on Sherlock Drive when he hit a woman crossing the street at the intersection with Kimball Drive.

The injured woman was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said. Her name was not publicly released pending her formal identification and notification of her next of kin by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.

Police said the driver stopped at the scene, and there was no indication that he was arrested or cited. The collision marks the third roadway death of the year in San Jose, and the third to involve a pedestrian who died.
