Oregon knocks off cold-shooting VU

Oregon held Valparaiso to 32 percent shooting overall, including 19 percent from 3-point range, en route to a 76-54 win Thursday night in Eugene, Ore.
Alec Peters scored 24 points to lead VU (3-1). Tevonn Walker was the only other Crusader in double figures, scoring 12.
Senior forward Chris Boucher led Oregon (2-1) with a game-high 25 points on 9-of-12 shooting. Jordan Bell added 15 points for the Ducks, who led 37-30 at halftime.
Dawson plans Thanksgiving giveaway: Former Lew Wallace basketball star Branden Dawson will hand out free turkeys to Gary residents at Lighthouse College Prep Academy, 725 Clark Road, from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday or until the turkeys are gone. Purdue Northwest's Reyes honored: Purdue Northwest senior Sergio Reyes has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America College Division Men's Soccer First Team. Reyes, a defender from Tabio, Colombia, had two goals and led a defense that had an 0.93 goals-against average. He has a 3.91 grade-point average in mechanical engineering. The Pride (11-5-4) will play at Davenport (Mich.) in the NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship Opening Round at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
VU's Longoria earns Horizon award: Valparaiso libero Morganne Longoria was named Horizon League Women's Volleyball Defensive Player of the Year. Longoria also was named to the all-conference team, while teammate Emily Campbell earned honorable mention.
Hanover Central sets Wall of Fame ceremony: Hanover Central will hold its annual Wall of Fame ceremony at halftime of its girls basketball game against River Forest on Nov. 26. Game time is 7 p.m. Those being honored are Lindsey Kolanowski, Trenton Fanta, Brooke Sterkowitz, Shariden Varner, Evan Larsen, Ashton Mutuwa and Kyle Wilson.
