Readers respond to Question of the Week:
What do you make of the riots in L.A.?
I think they are disgusting
Do I support ICE in their attempts to deport illegal immigrants? Absolutely. If someone has come across our border illegally they have committed a crime. If someone in the country commits a crime should they be prosecuted? Of course they should!
We have laws that are to be followed. If we decide to just follow the laws that we like then we are making a huge mistake. I am thankful that President Trump has called in the National Guard. If we waited for Gov. Newsom or Mayor Bass to take control of the riots that are taking place we’d be waiting indefinitely.
Our LAPD officers, L.A. County Sheriff’s Department officers, National Guard, CHP officers, ICE agents all deserve our support and to do anything less than support them is shameful!

What riots?
I didn’t see any riots. Come on! I saw protests that at times turned violent but we’ve seen much worse. L.A. in 1965 and 1992, now those events were riots. And Trump bringing in the military? Seriously? I saw the LAPD, L.A. County sheriff and the CHP doing just fine. Trump’s act is a provocation so he can enact the Insurrection Act or worse martial law. It is a longtime fantasy of his to do just that.

L.A. protest and riots
Why is it somehow wrong to some people that we, the citizens of the United States, cannot have the immigration laws of our country enforced? The vast majority of the people that came here illegally did so willingly and knew they were breaking the law. My family came here legally several generations ago. The key word being legally. Why do people who come here uninvited, unvetted and illegally think they don’t have to obey the law? What a sad example many elected officials are displaying by not condemning their illegal behavior. Do citizens get to pick and choose which laws to obey and then protest, riot and destroy property when they are being held accountable for their actions? If you don’t like the law, vote to change it. Until then, let ICE do their job and deport people who are here illegally under the current law. It’s not that complicated.
