New York Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton expects to miss about four weeks because of a strained left hamstring that caused him to go on the injured list for the eighth time in six seasons.

The 34-year-old former MVP left Saturday’s 8-3 win over Atlanta and had imaging Sunday that led to the strain being evaluated as mild. He had a platelet-rich plasma injection and gave the timetable for a return.

Stanton, the active leader with 420 homers, missed 266 of 708 games in the past five seasons.

He played in 69 of the team’s first 79 games this season — none in the field — and is hitting .246 with 18 homers and 45 RBIs.

YANKEES get DAVIS >> Infielder J.D. Davis was acquired by the Yankees from the Oakland Athletics along with cash for minor league infielder Jordan Groshans as New York sought reinforcement after first baseman Anthony Rizzo broke a forearm and Stanton was injured.

Davis hit .232 with four homers and five RBIs in 135 plate appearances with the A’s, who signed him to a $2.5 million contract in mid-March and designated him for assignment on Tuesday. Davis defeated San Francisco in arbitration and was awarded a $6.9 million salary as part of a nonguaranteed contract, then was released by the Giants and given $1,112,903 in termination pay.

A 31-year-old right-handed hitter, Davis has a .273 average with 119 homers and 386 RBIs in eight seasons with Houston (2017-18), the New York Mets (2019-22), Giants (2022-23) and A’s.

PIRATES CLOSER ON IL >> Right-handed closer David Bednar was placed on the 15-day injured list by the Pittsburgh Pirates with a strained left oblique muscle.

Bednar (3-3, 5.17 ERA), a two-time All-Star, has 16 saves, tied with Craig Kimbrel of the Baltimore Orioles for eighth most in the majors entering Sunday.
