Some lanes on the southbound 15 Freeway in the Ontario area will be closed today as crews make emergency repairs.
Work will take place in and along the freeway’s center median in the area of a project to add toll lanes, a news release states.
The closures of two lanes on the northbound side took place Saturday between the 60 Freeway near Jurupa Valley and the 10 Freeway in Ontario.
Today, from 4 a.m. to 2 p.m., the two left lanes of the southbound 15 Freeway will be closed between Fourth Street in Ontario and the 60 Freeway.
Workers will be repairing potholes that developed after recent rains with the goal of stopping further asphalt deterioration in next week’s predicted showers.
The San Bernardino County Transportation Authority’s Interstate 15 Corridor Freight and Express Lanes Project will add 8 miles of express lanes from Cantu-Galleano Ranch Road in Jurupa Valley to just north of Foothill Boulevard in Rancho Cucamonga.
The lanes will be added to the median of the 15 and will join the existing express lanes in Riverside County that opened in April 2021. Auxiliary lanes to improve traffic and safety near the interchange of the 15 and 10 freeways in Ontario and the 15 Freeway/60 Freeway interchange in the Jurupa Valley area also will be constructed.
