Hideki Matsuyama and Sungjae Im tied a record for the biggest blowout, and Si Woo Kim polished off a most perfect day as the International team produced a sweep of its own to tie the Americans in the Presidents Cup in Montreal on Friday.

“Incredible,” Adam Scott said. “Incredible day for us to come back and show everyone what this team is made of.”

A Presidents Cup that started out looking like another American victory took on an entirely different feel before a Royal Montreal crowd that was chanting “I-N-T!” from the opening tee.

Unlike the American sweep in fourballs Thursday, most of the foursomes matches weren’t even close. The Internationals only trailed in one match, and that was only for one hole.

Every video screen showing the scores was filled with yellow.

Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele, 3-0 in foursomes at the Presidents Cup, never stood a chance against Matsuyama and Im. The Internationals birdied their final seven holes, a staggering streak considering they were alternating shots, for a 7-and-6 win.

It tied the Presidents Cup record, last done in 2011 when Scott and K.J. Choi defeated Tiger Woods and Steve Stricker in 12 holes. The Americans didn’t help the cause by not hitting a fairway until the eighth hole. Then again, Matsuyama and Im were 8 under for 12 holes.

Right behind them, Scott and Taylor Pendrith made three straight birdies and never trailed in beating Sahith Theegala and ex-Cal star Collin Morikawa, 5 and 4.

The Canadians delivered just as big as Hughes and Corey Conners won the first two holes in a 6-and-5 rout over Wyndham Clark and Tony Finau.

Two matches went the distance, and the Internationals were just as relentless. Jason Day hit a superb pitch off a muddy lie to the left of the 18th green to a foot that secured a 1-up victory over Max Homa from Cal and Brian Harman.

Today features two sessions — four matches of fourballs, four matches of foursomes — before the 12 singles matches on Sunday.

Suwannapura tops Arkansas contingent in LPGA >> Jasmine Suwannapura birdied the final two holes for an 8-under 63 and the top spot on a leaderboard crowded with Arkansas Razorbacks in the LPGA Tour’s Walmart NW Arkansas Championship.

Opening in gusty morning conditions at Pinnacle Country Club, Suwannapura played the back nine in 5-under 30, closing with the birdies on the par-3 17th and par-5 18th.

Former University of Arkansas star Maria Fassi was a shot back with Liqi Zeng, Carlota Ciganda and Ashleigh Buhai. Fassi, from Mexico, capped her college career with the 2019 NCAA individual title.

One of those current Arkansas players on the tee with Fassi — Maria Marin of Colombia — found herself on the leaderboard near Fassi, too, after a 65.

Sharks cut seven from preseason roster >> The San Jose Sharks announced they have cut three forwards and four defensemen from their preseason roster.

Forwards Mitchell Russell, Lucas Vanroboys and Anthony Vincent were sent to the Barracuda’s training camp, as were defensemen Artem Guryev, Braden Hache, Joey Keane and Valtteri Pulli.

Guryev, a 2021 fifth-round draft pick returning from shoulder surgery, played his first year with the AHL club last season, alongside Pulli, Russell and Vincent.

Vanroboys signed with the Barracuda late in the season after finishing his college career at Massachusetts and Hache signed in the offseason after winning the Memorial Cup as a member of the OHL’s Saginaw Spirit.

Keane, a 2018 third-round pick of the Rangers, was in San Jose on a tryout after playing in the AHL from 2019-2022 with two games in the NHL, then playing for Spartak Moscow of the KHL.

The Sharks are down to 49 players and will need to trim 26 more before they open the regular season Oct. 10 against the Blues.

King nets another legacy honor >> Billie Jean King is now the first individual female athlete to be awarded the Congressional Gold Medal.

President Biden signed bipartisan legislation to recognize King for “a remarkable life devoted to championing equal rights for all, in sports and in society.”

The bill to honor King, the tennis Hall of Famer and activist, passed unanimously in the Senate and then in the House of Representatives.

The bill was introduced last September on the 50th anniversary of King’s victory over Bobby Riggs in the “Battle of the Sexes,” still the most-watched tennis match of all-time. The medal, awarded by Congress for distinguished achievements and contributions to society, has previously been given to athletes including baseball players Jackie Robinson and Roberto Clemente, and golfers Jack Nicklaus, Byron Nelson and Arnold Palmer.

King had already been awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2009.

Gauff, Alcaraz advance at China Open >> Coco Gauff reached the third round of the China Open by beating Clara Burel 7-5, 6-3 in her first match since the U.S. Open.

Gauff is playing in Beijing following her recent split from coach Brad Gilbert of Piedmont after more than a year and one Grand Slam title together.

Earlier, No. 3-ranked Carlos Alcaraz withstood a heavy barrage from big-serving Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard to win 6-4, 6-4 in his opening match.

Daniil Medvedev safely navigated a tricky first outing, 6-3, 6-4 against French veteran Gael Monfils.

In the women’s draw, second-seeded Jessica Pegula opened her account by beating Diane Parry 6-1, 7-6 (4).
