Boulder Community Health’s Foothills Hospital has been named a 2024 High Performing Hospital for maternity care of patients with uncomplicated pregnancies by U.S. News & World Report.

According to a news release, U.S. News’ Best Hospitals for Maternity Care conducts an annual evaluation of facilities offering labor and delivery services for expectant parents.

This year, U.S. News looked at 680 hospitals nationwide and evaluated them based on measures such as rates of C-sections in low-risk pregnancies and newborn complications, “birthing-friendly practices” and transparency around racial and ethnic disparities.

Foothills Hospital earned the High Performing designation, the highest award from Best Hospitals for Maternity Care. Fewer than half (46%) the hospitals evaluated this year received this designation.

“Hospitals that receive a High Performing designation as part of Best Hospitals for Maternity Care meet a high standard in caring for parents with uncomplicated pregnancies,” Jennifer Winston, a health data scientist at U.S. News, stated in the release.

“These hospitals have C-section rates that are 26% lower, and newborn complication rates that are 37% lower, than unrecognized hospitals.”

In the release, Lisa Allen, BCH’s Director of Nursing and Family Birth Center, stated, “I am proud and honored that our maternity care team has been recognized by U.S. News as one of the best maternity hospitals in the U.S.

“This national recognition reflects the remarkable dedication, collaboration and expertise of our OB-GYNs, certified nurse midwives, nurse practitioners, nurses and support staff for helping families have the safest and best birth experience.”
