Aptos High junior quarterback Ella Porter completed 21 of 31 passes for 192 yards and three touchdowns, and the Mariners’ flag football team knocked off visiting Hollister 18-12 in overtime on Friday night.

Sophomore receiver Ellie Marta hauled in the game winning score on a 32-yard pass as the Mariners earned their first win in four tries against the Haybalers this season.

“Our team motto is “Be Brave. Do Hard Things. Believe,” said Mariners coach Denise Russo. “We have lost to Hollister three times already this year, each game by one touchdown. The players have been doing the work and living by our motto and worked hard to defeat a well-coached Hollister team.”

Freshman Julia Parello had a 46-yard touchdown reception for Aptos. She finished with seven catches and five sacks.

Mariners senior Izzy Graff made five catches and scored on a 72-yard pass play. Senior Siena Black and junior Julia Siliveria combined for seven receptions.

Men’s soccer

At Cabrillo 2, Santa Rosa 0 >> Yoan Ponio scored in the 14th and 81st minutes, and the Seahawks won their nonconference match Friday.

Seahawks goalie Carlos Bajaras made five saves. Santa Rosa (5-2-1) played two goalies and they made a combined three saves.

Cabrillo (2-2-2) host Gavilan (3-4-0) on Tuesday at 3 p.m.

Girls volleyball

Pacific Collegiate 3, St. Francis 1 >> The Pumas earned a 26-24, 10-25, 25-20, 25-20 win over the Sharks in their Pacific Coast Athletic League Cypress Division match Friday.

Senior middle blocker Carley Anderson had eight kills and 12 aces for the Sharks (10-5, 2-2). Junior outside Peyton Orradre had seven kills and four aces. Junior setter Georgia Otzman made 14 assists, and classmate Julie Lopez had 12 assists and three kills.

The Sharks host Greenfield on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Men’s water polo

Cuesta Classic >> Cabrillo went 0-2 to open the two-day Cuesta Classic in San Luis Obispo on Friday.

Brandon Smith scored four goals and Nolan Nguyen added three in the Seahawks’ 18-7 loss to Modesto.

Ayden Reed, Nguyen, and Smith scored goals in a 23-3 loss to Orange Coast.

Boys cross country

At Aptos 23, Santa Cruz 32 >> Cardinals senior Eli Fitchen-Young cruised to the individual win in 14:53, but Mariners were the next four finishers in their team victory at Pinto Lake County Park’s 2.93-mile course in Watsonville on Thursday.

Junior Brady Bliesner (15:32), sophomores Sam Hansen (15:53) and Anthony Sandford-Carroll (15:59), and senior Vincent Sandford-Carroll (16:14) rounded out the top five,

Girls cross country

Santa Cruz 19, Aptos 39 >> Senior Heidi Green completed Pinto Lake County Park’s 2.93-mile course in 18:09 for the win and the Cardinals had four runners in the top five in Watsonville on Thursday.

Aptos junior Maya Schiro (18:15) took second, and was followed by Cardinals Isla Roake (19:21), Hayden Kriege (20:58), Amelia Palm (21:00), and Chloe Hood (21:45).
