James Tibbs III hit his third home run of the game, a two-run shot in the top of the 12th inning, and Florida State defeated UConn 10-8 on Saturday, sweeping the Tallahassee Super Regional for a berth in the College World Series.

After Max Williams led off the 12th with a single and Cam Smith flied out, Tibbs drove a 1-0 pitch deep over the fence in right field for the go-ahead runs. In the bottom of the inning, Conner Whittaker allowed a two-out single but struck out Paul Tammaro to end it and send the No. 8 seed Seminoles to Omaha for the 24th time. They have never won the national championship.

Tibbs’ dramatic home run was his third two-run shot of the game. It was his 31st home run of the season and his 100 RBIs are tied for first in the nation. He went 5 for 6 with six RBIs on Saturday. Williams had three hits and scored twice.

In the top of the ninth, Florida State (47-15) loaded the bases on a walk, a single and an error, then Drew Faurot lifted a fly to left field and Jordan Williams scored from third to give FSU the lead. The next two batters flied out to end the inning.

UConn’s Matt Malcolm tied it with a leadoff home run in the bottom of the ninth.

There were eight home runs in the game, six by Florida State.

virginia 10, kansas state 4 >> Casey Saucke and Henry Ford combined for four hits and three RBIs, helping Virginia defeat Kansas State to sweep the Charlottesville Super Regional. Virginia (46-15) advanced to the College World Series for the seventh time, all since 2009. The Cavaliers won the national championship in 2015.

Saucke had two hits, an RBI and scored twice; Ford had two hits, two RBIs and a run scored; and Luke Hanson put the icing on the victory with a three-run double in the ninth inning.

north carolina 2, west virginia 1 >> Vance Honeycutt hit a home run on the game’s first pitch after ending Friday’s opener of the series with a walk-off two-run shot, and North Carolina held off West Virginia to sweep the best-of-three Chapel Hill Super Regional and grabbing a berth in the College World Series.

North Carolina (47-14) will play in its 12th CWS looking to win it for the first time. The Tar Heels finished second in back-to-back seasons, losing both times to the Oregon State Beavers in 2006-07.

Honeycutt, who homered in the ninth inning of the Tar Heels’ 8-6 victory in the opener, homered off West Virginia starter Tyler Switalski leading off the game. Honeycutt’s home run was his school-record 26th of the season, moving him one past the single-season record he set two seasons ago. It was also the school-record 63rd of his career.

West Virginia (36-24), which advanced to the first super regional in school history, loaded the bases against Tar Heels reliever Dalton Pence with two outs in the ninth, but Ben Lumsden was retired on a groundout to end the game and earn Pence his eighth save of the season.

florida 10, clemson 7 >> Jac Caglianone hit his 32nd home run of the season to spark Florida’s seven-run fifth inning and the Gators beat Clemson to win Game 1 of the Clemson Super Regional.

Florida (33-28) can clinch a berth in the College World Series with a win in Game 2 today.

Caglianone hit an 0-1 pitch over the wall in left for a three-run home run to give the Gators the lead for good before Michael Robertson’s RBI single capped the explosion and made it 9-4 in the top of the fifth.

Tristan Bissetta hit a solo shot for Clemson (44-15) in the home half of the inning and Jarren Purify scored on a sacrifice fly before a groundout by Blake Wright drove in Alden Mathes in the bottom of the sixth to pull the Tigers within 9-7.

Caglianone, a projected top-10 pick in the upcoming MLB draft, finished 2 for 4 with a walk. Dale Thomas went 2 for 5 with an RBI and Tyler Shelnut hit a solo homer for Florida.

texas A&M 10, oregon 6 >> Chris Cortez and Evan Aschenbeck pitched 7 1/3 innings of scoreless relief, Hayden Schott drove in three runs and Texas A&M battled back from an early three-run deficit to defeat mistake-prone Oregon in the opening game of the College Station Super Regional.

The No. 3 national seed Aggies need a win today to advance to the College World Series for the eighth time. If Oregon wins a decisive third game would be played on Monday.

Anson Arroz hit a two-run homer in the first inning and the Ducks added four runs in the second, building a 6-3 lead. In the second, Mason Neville had a sacrifice fly, Arroz drove in another run with a single and Chase Meggers ripped a two-run double.

Trailing 6-4 through three innings, Texas A&M took a 7-6 lead with three runs in the fourth on two errors and a fielder’s choice. The Aggies added three more in the fifth on a bases-loaded walk and two groundouts.

n.C. state 18, georgia 1 >> Noah Soles had two doubles and five RBIs in N.C. State’s 11-run second inning and the Wolfpack routed Georgia in Game 1 of the Athens Super Regional.

Luke Nixon and Matt Heavner had back-to-back bunt singles in the top of the second inning, the former to drive in Brandon Butterworth and open the scoring and the latter to load the bases with nobody out. Soles followed with a three-RBI double down the line in right and Eli Serrano III hit the next pitch over the wall in right center. Butterworth added an RBI single before Nixon and Soles each hit two-RBI doubles to give No. 10 seed N.C. State (37-20) an 11-0 lead.

evansville 10, tennessee 8 >> Kip Fougerousse, Cal McInnis and Brendan Hord each hit a home run to help Evansville beat No. 1 national seed Tennessee to avoid elimination at the Knoxville Super Regional.

The teams will play a decisive Game 3 today with the winner advancing to the College World Series.

Fougerousse, Brent Widder and McInnis each hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning to make it 6-5 and Evansville led the rest of the way.

The Aces became the first No. 4 regional seed to beat a No. 1 national seed in the NCAA Tournament. No. 4 regional seeds had been 0-30 all-time in such matchups.

kentucky 10, oregon St. 0 >> Trey Pooser pitched the first seven innings of a one-hitter, Ryan Nicholson drove in three runs and Kentucky routed Oregon State to open the Lexington Super Regional.

Kentucky (44-14), the No. 2 national seed, can advance to the College World Series with a win today. An Oregon State win would force a deciding third game on Monday.

In his seven innings on the mound, Pooser (7-1) allowed one hit, struck out eight and walked four batters. Only one runner reached third base and two others made it as far as second. Jackson Nove finished with two hitless innings, striking out four.

Nicholson plated the game’s first run in the second inning when his double to center field scored Nick Lopez. Emilien Pitre added a two-run double in the fifth.

Kentucky broke it open with seven runs in the seventh inning, the big hit being a two-run home run by Nicholson. A wild pitch, a throwing error and two more wild pitches by Noah Ferguson produced the last three runs of the inning.
