Mike Levin on Trump’s tariffs
Once again on April 16 another Democrat congressman bends the truth about free trade being fair trade and it’s Trump’s fault California has the highest gasoline prices and basic living expenses.
Where were the Democrats when they were approving the massive budgets and the assault on the oil and gas industry? Where were the state Democrats when California passed the cap and trade and additional state taxes on gasoline?
Oh, that’s right, they were all voting for it!

Education
Re “Trump vs. Harvard as Americans go Crimson” (Larry Wilson column, April 20):
Do you get out at all? Trump is trying to fix what liberals have done to a decent country that has fallen into shambles from 12 years, at least, of adulterated government by, for and of the elitists.
Do you know they now teach remedial English at Harvard? Do you even have a clue who ran our country the last four years? Nobody else does except a small group of elitists. I have a BA in secondary education, was an MFA TA at USC and my wife is now an aide for special needs moderate to severe 4th and 5th graders. Teaching, schooling and so much more has been destroyed by leftists who want what’s best for everyone and they know what that is more than people who have to live in this world and not in their fantasy land.
Maybe instead of reading books to prove you are an intellectual you should see what’s going on in the world and watch less CNBC or CNN.

California’s energy slush fund
Re “Battle over state’s cap-and-trade fund” (April 20):
Gov. Gavin Newsom has been pushing forever for California to go completely green. And wants us all to drive electric cars by 2035, plus no more gas cars sold. Is he still being driven around in that big black SUV?
Now, guess what, he just figured out that California is losing all that income from the gas tax.
So he wants to charge everyone a percentage of the miles driven at 2.5 cents per mile. He needs to realize that not everyone living in California is a millionaire. And I for one I’m tired of being told what I have to do. Let’s face facts: we need a new governor.
