QuikTrip

• I’m calling in response to the QuikTrip that the City Council approved for Ken Pratt Boulevard. Do they have any clue what it’s going to do to traffic congestion there? For first responders, for fire and ambulance and police to try to get through that traffic jam that’s called Ken Pratt Boulevard? I think they have no regard for the people of Southmoor Park. If there is an underground tank leak, what is that going to do to our underground water supply? I think it’s terribly, terribly, badly placed.

• That’s what I want to see, a beautiful gas station as I enter Longmont. But, hey, I heard they have great food, not to mention the added congestion on 287 and Ken Pratt Boulevard . Wonderful. Thanks.

Tax refunds

I’m calling in reference to the tax refunds this year. For people on welfare with one child gets $7,000 back from the state of Colorado and $7,000 back from the federal government. I’m 83 years old. I’ve worked all my life, and for this year, I went from $1,785 for my Social Security to $1,845, and so I don’t understand how this welfare system works. … How (can) anybody …explain … to me that is acceptable compared to what they did to the seniors this year and everybody else? I think it’s very unfair and very concerning and should be investigated.

I missed Bill Ellis’s obituary somehow. It would be nice if the Times-Call announced the passing of frequent contributors and a notice outside of the obituary. These people are our local equivalent of George Will and Kathleen Parker. They deserve a little more recognition upon passing.

While at the First Lutheran Church quilt quick on Friday evening, I lost the inside of my wallet Two Gentlemen found that and returned it to my neighbor since I wasn’t home. Since they couldn’t find a phone number, they went out of their way to return my wallet contents to me. I truly thank them, and it’s evidence that there are some very good people in this world.

Discrimination

How come we have Boy Scouts for girls also, yet we have Girl Scouts for girls only? And the YMCA — the Young Men’s Christian Association — for men and women, but the YWCA — the Young Women’s Christian Association — is for only women, and the League of Women Voters for women only but there is not a League of Men Voters? What’s wrong with this picture? Discrimination in any form is discrimination.
