Police seek suspect in attempted sexual assault

Boulder police are looking for a suspect who tried to sexually assault a woman near Broadway and Baseline Road on Thursday night.

The woman was walking in that area just after 6 p.m. when a man grabbed her and pulled her into a nearby tunnel, according to a Boulder Police post on X.

The woman escaped after using pepper spray and biting the man’s hand, then ran to a nearby fire station and called for help.

Police believe the man is his 30s with long, shaggy hair, roughly 5 feet 7 inches tall and with an average build, according to the post. The suspect was last seen wearing blue and gray clothes and could have an injury on his hand from the bite.

1 dead, 4 injured in crash on U.S. 287

One person died and four people were taken to the hospital after a crash on U.S. 287 just south of Oxford Road around 1:14 p.m. Friday, according to a Mountain View Fire Rescue Facebook post.

Two people at the scene declined treatment, according to Mountain View Fire Rescue spokesman Rick Tillery. The high-speed, head-on collision involved five vehicles, Tillery said.

Colorado State Patrol and the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office investigated the cause of the crash and Erie Police Department helped with traffic control.

No injuries in fire near Erie

No one was injured in a fire near Erie early Friday morning that happened on 119th Street, according to a Facebook post from Mountain View Fire Rescue. Crews arrived to find a tree on fire, and the flames were spreading to a small fence. Rick Tillery, a spokesman for Mountain View, said a call came in about the fire around 1:30 a.m. The Facebook post said the fire was put out and mopped up within 30 minutes.

Crews also were able to secure animals nearby.

LAFAYETTE

Firefighters quickly put out chicken coop fire

Firefighters quickly put out a fire at a former chicken coop around 4:20 p.m. Thursday just east of Lafayette.

Boulder County dispatchers received a call at 4:20 p.m. about a possible fire of a barn or outbuilding at a home near East County Line Road and Baseline Road, according to a Facebook post.

Mountain View Fire Rescue and Lafayette Fire crews worked together to control the fire, and it was completely out by 5:15 p.m.

There were no injuries reported, but crews brought additional tenders to supply water, because there was no fire hydrant near the building. Officials are investigating the cause of the fire.
