A Gary man is wanted on charges he allegedly shot a woman trying to get her car’s alternator back.
Courtney Watts Jr., 20, was charged July 14 with two counts of attempted murder and two counts of battery.
An arrest warrant was issued that day with orders to hold him on a $10,000 cash bond.
The victim told police in the early afternoon on July 8 she and her friend were driving, trying to catch up to Watts, an acquaintance, who had the alternator, records show.
They lost him, but soon spotted him again at an abandoned gas station on 11th Avenue and Chase Street, where he appeared to be selling it to another man they knew.
The other man handed Watts a gun, who started firing four to five shots, hitting the woman in the right arm, the friend later told police.
The woman and her friend sped off, flagging down a nearby ambulance, who took her to the hospital.
The friend was not hurt. The other man has not yet been charged, according to public records.
