Resident of San Jose
Matthew J. Kells, beloved son of Beby and John Kells. Possibly the saddest day of our lives, Matthew J. Kells, 48 (aka, Matt, Mattie, Mateo, KellsPunx), our beloved son passed away, August 6th, 2024, at 5PM of stage 4 non-small cell metastatic lung cancer. Initially, Matt responded well to targeted tumor cell treatment (Tagrisso), but ultimately suffered a series of strokes from blood clots generated by the cancer.
He died in his San Jose, CA., home after 14 days of Hospice Care with his parents as caregivers by his side. A great thanks to the Mission Hospice organization that provided furniture, medications and professional care for Matt during this time.
Matt's world was filled with friendships from kindergarten in Los Altos, where he grew upthrough San Jose State University, graduating with a Sociology degree. He was recently employed by Staphanie Young Consultants as the Team Leader of the crisis support services. Matt was loved by his many clients throughout the bay area.
He wrote and loved music. He was the lead singer of “Mental Brotherhood” and “Flexx Bronco” bands for almost 20 years. You could say music was his passion during his young life. Matt also loved opera, which he shared with his baby daughter Delaney on ‘Opera Nights,’ their favorite was Pavarotti, Nessun Dorma. He loved art (acrylic painting), cycling, skiing, cooking, karate, skate boarding and snowboarding.
During the Pandemic, Matt was the Administrator of “Quarantine Kitchen Army”, bringing together many friends and new ones. He was filled with love of life and made great friendships everywhere he went, ask anyone.
Matt is survived by his father John, his mother Beby, brother Ryan, and his baby daughter Delaney R. Kells of 23 months, numerous cousins, aunts and uncles. He will be missed by the enormous number of people that he cultivated throughout his short life.
We think of you inthe next room and we still hear your voice, and laughter Matt. We will schedule a“Celebration of Matt’s Life” in the months ahead.
Loved you yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
