Petaluma’s St. Vincent de Paul High School, with its two-time state championship football team, is in the running to receive a $1 million upgrade to its athletic facilities as part of a program by T-Mobile to boost high school sports programs across the country.
According to a news release by the telecom giant, St. Vincent was selected in July to be among 450 schools nationwide to receive $5,000 through the “T-Mobile Friday Night 5G Lights” program, which the company called a “major initiative investing in small-town high school football communities across America.”
Of the selected programs, one will receive a $1 million grand prize, which includes a “complete field tech upgrade, a renovated weight room from Gronk Fitness, an all-expense-paid trip to the SEC Championship and more.”
Before that there will be 25 finalists, announced in late September, receiving grants of $25,000 for their football programs. Once the finalists are announced, each of those schools will get their own page on the Friday Night 5G Lights website, the company says.
From there, community members will be able to cast votes, and the winning high school will be determined by the most votes cast to each school’s unique URL, according to T-Mobile. The grand prize winner is set to be announced Oct. 30.
