John Lennon is being honored in a specially minted British coin collection to mark the year the Beatles great and peace advocate would have turned 85, the Royal Mint said Friday.
The coin, which will go on sale Monday, features a portrait of Lennon that is based on a famous image taken by music industry photographer Bob Gruen in 1974.
It depicts a profile of Lennon taken on the roof of his penthouse in New York. Lennon was shot dead by Mark David Chapman in the city on Dec. 8, 1980, at age 40.
Lennon’s name appears to the left of the portrait, while the word “Imagine” is on the right side of the design in a reference to his solo single and album released in 1971.
En vogue singer Robinson has been living in her car
Former En Vogue lead singer Dawn Robinson has shared that she has been living in her car for the past three years.
In a video on her YouTube channel this week, the former member of En Vogue, whose hits include “My Lovin’ ” and “Hold On,” revealed that hard times have led to her circumstances.
“For the past three, almost three years I have been living in my car,” she said, before squealing. “I said it. Oh my God it’s out!”
Robinson explained that in 2020, she was living with her parents in Las Vegas and “that was wonderful until it wasn’t.” She ended up living in her car for a month when her co-manager invited her to Los Angeles.
“He said ‘I don’t have a lot of room, but I’ll make room for you,’ ” Robinson recalled. “But then when I got to his place he actually didn’t have room for me.”
Instead, she said, she ended up in a hotel for eight months. Robinson said she started researching “car life” and learned there is a community of people who choose to live in their vehicles.
“I felt free. I felt like I was on a camping trip,” once she adjusted to living in her car in 2022. She said her video wasn’t an effort to seek pity. Instead, she hopes her story of resilience will inspire others.
Stroke patient Pinfield provides health update
After former MTV VJ Matt Pinfield suffered a stroke in January, most fans didn’t expect to hear from him anytime soon, if ever.
But the good news is that Pinfield, 63, is out of his coma and on the road to recovery.
The ex-SiriusXM host told the Hollywood Reporter that he has been released from intensive care and is recovering at a rehabilitation center in Los Angeles.
“Guys, I’m alive,” he said. “I’m recovering and am going to come back swinging. I was unresponsive for two months. The doctors never expected me to speak or to walk again.”
