SAN JOSE — A U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services officer was struck by a suspect in an off-road vehicle Friday night as they fled from the residential community of Alviso, police said.
The Fish and Wildlife officer had attempted to detain the suspect around 9:20 p.m. in the area of Grand Boulevard and Los Esteros Road when the suspect drove their Can-Am off-road vehicle into the officer, authorities said. The Fish and Wildlife officer fired at least one shot toward the fleeing suspect’s vehicle but could not confirm if the bullet hit the subject, the San Jose Police Department said in a statement on social media site X.
SJPD officers transferred the Fish and Wildlife Services officer to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The officer was released from the hospital Sunday morning, according to SJPD.
SJPD stated the suspect is unidentified and still at large. The investigation is ongoing.
