Ralph Carl "Ralphie" LaPine, 81, passed away on March 18, 2025, in Hollister, California. Born in Illinois on August 20, 1943, Ralph pursued his passion for mathematics, earning a bachelor's degree from San Jose State University. His intellectual curiosity extended far beyond numbers—he was captivated by astronomy and space exploration, often contemplating the mysteries of the universe and humanity’s place within it. A consummate tinkerer, he found immense joy in transforming simple materials like rubber bands and duct tape into mechanical wonders. His dedication to maintaining connections was evident in the thoughtful messages he sent with clockwork regularity, ensuring that friends and family always felt valued and remembered. Beyond his academic and intellectual pursuits, Ralph cherished life’s simple pleasures.
He believed tomatoes were a gift from the gods and never turned down a good burger. A traveler at heart, he dreamed of visiting Alaska and treasured a trip to Hawaii with his cousin Tony. In another life, he might have embraced the solitude of a Benedictine monk, but at heart, he was an explorer—always seeking new experiences and perspectives. Family was central to Ralph’s life. He is survived by his sister Loya; his brother Anthony (Skip); his daughter Lizabeth; and his nieces and nephews - Tim, Todd, Josh, Brooke, Shannan, Lisa, Tanya, Raymond, Amy, and Shiela. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Beverly Ann LaPine and daughter Leanne Celeste LaPine. A memorial gathering will be held on March 24, 2025, from 12:30 PM to 5:00 PM at the Jackson Residence on DeWitt Ave in Morgan Hill, California. Ralph’s legacy is one of curiosity, kindness, and an adventurous spirit that inspired those around him. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
