Aaron Schneekloth is moving up the hockey ladder — and away from the Colorado Eagles.

Schneekloth was named an assistant on new Seattle Kraken head coach Jane Lambert’s NHL staff on Tuesday afternoon, ending a 19-year run with the Avalanche’s AHL affiliate that included seven seasons as a player and 12 as a member of the team’s coaching staff.

The 46-year-old served as the Eagles’ head coach for a pair of two-year stints, leading the club to back-to-back Kelly Cup titles in the ECHL in 2017 and 2018 and a pair of playoff appearances in the AHL over the past two seasons.

After the Eagles made the jump from the ECHL to the AHL in 2018, Schneekloth served as an assistant coach under Greg Cronin for five seasons.

He then replaced Cronin before the 2023-24 season and guided the team to an 83-46-15 record with 11 players making their NHL debuts with the Avs on his watch.

After a four-year run as a defenseman at North Dakota that included an NCAA title, Schneekloth played 11 seasons professionally — the last seven coming with the Eagles. He retired in 2013 as the Eagles’ career leader in points (356), goals (111) and assists (245) by a defenseman. He was named the ECHL Defenseman of the Year in 2012 and the CHL’s Most Outstanding Defenseman in 2009 and 2010.
