The first bells signifying the beginning of the end of the spring sports season tolled Monday when CHSAA released its brackets for the girls tennis team state championships, and eight squads from the BoCoPreps coverage area will dance on.
Class 3A will be the most sparkling division for the local ladies, with Peak to Peak nabbing the No. 1 seed followed by No. 2 Prospect Ridge Academy, No. 4 Holy Family and No. 12 Dawson. Niwot claimed the No. 4 seed in 4A, which Longmont complemented by securing the No. 12 spot in the same classification.
Fairview leads the 5A contingent at No. 8, followed by Legacy at No. 13. The higher seed plays host in each dual during the first round of the 16-team brackets on Wednesday.

Class 3A
No. 1 Peak to Peak vs. Fountain Valley
The Pumas enter the postseason with a near-perfect, 8-1 dual record, having only lost to 4A’s top-seeded Kent Denver — and by a 5-2 score, to boot. They returned a huge chunk of last year’s core that competed all the way into the semifinals, where they lost to Vail Christian by a single match.
Their 2024 success didn’t end there.
The Pumas sent five of their seven lines to the Class 3A individual semifinals or farther. Junior Molly Kolachov is the lone returning state champion from last year’s No. 2 doubles team — now at 1 doubles — and senior Ranye Ezenekwe stole the silver at 3 singles.
Their top six lines boast plenty of success, with senior Lena Crotty (8-2 record) leading the way at 1 singles followed by senior Sydney Lewis (2S, 11-3); Ezenekwe (3S, 10-1); juniors Kolachov/Sydney Parkinson (1D, 14-0); seniors El Allen-Bonney/Lhadze Olsen (2D, 8-2); and seniors Abby Fitzgerald/Jolie Sasseville (3D, 5-1). Freshman Makenna Adams and sophomore Kayla Fanger, at 4D, likewise hold a winning record at 4-3.
The Pumas will host a Fountain Valley team that has only played in five duals all spring but won four.
No. 4 Holy Family vs. No. 13 St. Mary’s Academy
The Tigers met plenty of adversity through their 4-5 record, but every single one of their losses came at the hands of teams that made the team state tournament at all three levels. They return junior Lauren Stonehocker, who was state runner-up at 1 dubs but made the monumental leap to 2 singles and is now enjoying a 14-3 record. Raelynn Pickup, at 3 singles, boasts the other strong record on the team thanks to her 9-5 efforts.
They’ll face a St. Mary’s Academy team that’s gone 3-8 this season.
No. 12 Dawson at No. 5 Vail Christian
The Mustangs bring in a 1-5 record — all losses of which were courtesy of higher-seeded teams in the 3A bracket — with their lone win coming over St. Mary’s Academy. Junior Isabelle Jacobsma, a semifinalist and third-place finisher at last year’s individual tournament, is on a tear in her third season with an 11-1 record. She’s the only girl on the team with a winning record.
The Saints, by contrast, boast a 7-1 record and strong gameplay from the top down.
Class 4A
No. 4 Niwot vs. No. 13 Thompson Valley
The Cougars enter the postseason battle-tested through their 3-4 record, with losses to three teams that joined them in the brackets. Junior Saha Kolli once again takes the lead role after her third-place finish at 1 singles last year, bringing in a 3-5 record to this year’s team state tournament.
It’s senior 1 doubles duo Anne Haley and Samantha Zacky, however, who’ve impressed the most with their 12-2 showing to date. They, too, placed third at last year’s individual state competition. Thompson Valley, by contrast, has gone 6-1 without all of the intrigue caused by a tough schedule.
Class 5A
No. 8 Fairview vs. No. 9 ThunderRidge
The Knights, per usual, have been dominant through the regular season with an 8-1 record, having faced off with five squads that advanced to the team tournament. No. 7 Rocky Mountain owns their only loss this season, and the Lobos only won by a single match (4-3).
Senior Stella Laird reprises her role at the top of the ticket and has been a force of nature with her 16-1 record.
Behind her, freshman Kristina Harms (2S, 8-8), sophomore Julia Gao (3S, 16-2), senior Mila Burkart/sophomore Joana Volkamer-Pastor (1D, 15-0), freshman Abby Jiang/senior Bella Pope (2D, 15-3), juniors Madeleine Grandsaert/Madeleine Sieper (3D, 12-2) and sophomore Hanbei Bao/senior Sylvie Jones (4D, 10-1) have been just as impressive.
They’ll face off with a Grizzlies team that’s also enjoying an 8-1 mark.
