The UMass Lowell men’s basketball team continued to struggle on the road Thursday.

The River Hawks dropped a 66-54 decision to America East foe Binghamton in Vestal, N.Y., after shooting just 5-for-31 on 3-point attempts.

UML (15-9, 4-5 AE) is now 12-2 at home, but only 3-7 on the road. Binghamton (12-12, 4-5 AE) outrebounded the River Hawks, 52-39.

UML received 21 points from Yuri Covington and 15 points from freshman Martin Somerville. Max Brooks hauled down 15 rebounds, while Quinton Mincey had 10 rebounds.

The game ended a three-game road trip for the River Hawks.

Women’s basketball

UML falls >> The River Hawks were defeated in Lowell by America East opponent Binghamton, 65-52.

The visitors stormed out to a 22-11 lead after one quarter and that was the difference in the game. UML (3-19, 1-9 AE) never led. Binghamton shot nearly 50 percent from the floor (23-for-48).

Offensively, the River Hawks were paced by Abbey Lindsey with 13 points and Maddie Rice with 10 points and three assists. Nia Chima chipped in nine points and had a team-high eight rebounds.

Baseball

Beauchesne honored >> Five members of the Northeastern University baseball team earned preseason honors from the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA).

Among them is senior Jack Beauchesne, who earned a spot on the preseason All-CAA squad consisting of 20 players.

Beauchesne is a Chelmsford native. He posted a career-best 2.82 earned run average in 2024, making 18 appearances and working 22.1 innings. He had a team-high five saves on six opportunities, and a 2-1 record as the team’s primary closer.

Beauchesne struck out 22 batters, while allowing just six walks, and seven total runs, and earned All-CAA Honorable Mention honors in 2024.

The Huskies were picked to finish third in the 2025 CAA Preseason Coaches Poll, behind defending champion UNCW and runner-up College of Charleston. Northeastern received one first-place vote in the poll.

Northeastern is coached by Billerica native Mike Glavine.

Track

Hurst recognized >> Senior Paige Hurst (Pelham, N.H.) earned recognition as the Plymouth State University Female Athlete of the Month for January, sponsored by the New Hampshire Army National Guard, through her stellar efforts on the track.

Hurst nabbed four podium finishes in the sprints and brought the Panthers to three top-three team finishes.

Hurst jumpstarted her month at the Middlebury Snowflake Invitational on Jan. 11 when she finished second in the 60-meter dash in 8.13 seconds. She followed up with her first win of the month by topping the field in the 200-meters in 26.83.

Hurst carried her speed into the following weekend at home for the Panther Invitational I. She cruised in the 60-meters once again, taking second in the finals in 8.15 seconds.

Hurst showed off some range as she moved up into the 400-meters at the Husky Invitational at Southern Maine on Jan. 25, winning the event in a time of 1:02.11.

She also anchored Plymouth State’s 4×200-meter relay team that combined for a 1:52.97 for a sixth-place finish.

Hurst ranks among the top 25 in the East Region for all three events and has reached the qualifying standards to compete at the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championships at the end of the month.
