Police are investigating a hit-and-run that killed a pedestrian in northern San Rafael.

The incident was reported at 10:36 p.m. Friday near the corner of Redwood Highway and Marin Center Drive. Officers found a severely injured man in the street and attempted to save his life, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene, police Lt. Scott Eberle said.

The Marin County coroner’s office identified the man as Guy Michael Waltz, 46, of Greenbrae.

Eberle said details are limited and investigators are seeking information from the public.

“SRPD is urging anyone who was traveling in the area near Redwood Highway and Marin Center Drive around the time of the incident and may have seen something suspicious to come forward,” he said. “Even small details, such as a vehicle driving erratically or evidence of a damaged vehicle, could be crucial to the investigation.”

Anyone with potential information for investigators can call Detective Gerald McCarthy at 415-485-3000.
