The Supreme Court just ruled that public funds can be used to pay for religious education in private schools. As a child, I was sent to South Haven Christian School, which, thankfully, no longer exists. At that school, we were taught a wide variety of obviously toxic religious beliefs in “Bible” class and had such ideas interspersed through other classes. This included but was not limited to the “Christian” belief that demons were living on our non-Christian records and tapes and those demons would possess us if we listed to them. A record burning followed. There were also various diatribes about how the Catholic Church is evil incarnate. Science class was an exercise in unlearning any critical thinking skills in order to facilitate the absorption of creationist propaganda. If parents want to teach their kids those ideas, they should pay for it themselves. It may take a constitutional amendment at this point, but I want my tax dollars left out of it.
The conservative-slanted Supreme Court ruled that taxpayer money that is slated for public schools can now be diverted to religious schools. Now, I guess the churches will start paying their fair share of taxes since they are receiving the benefits? Even an atheist like me would agree to that. Wouldn’t the right-wing religious Republicans believe that’s fair?
If the Supreme Court’s function is to uphold laws, why are so many previous decisions being overturned with the former guy’s appointees? I suspect they are changing them to suit a political ideology.
Republicans have been stealing taxpayer money from public education for years to fund charter and private schools. Now the Supreme Court has given them the go ahead to steal what’s left for religious schools. The GOP won’t be happy until public education is dead and gone, or completely privatized, like they want to happen with Medicare and Social Security. So many billions in profits to be made by Republican donors.
What on earth has happened to the GOP in Indiana? They have picked Diego Morales as their candidate for Indiana’s Secretary of State, the official who oversees elections. Morales is a Trumpster through and through, an advocate of “The Big Lie,” and refers to the 2020 election as “a scam.” This is who you Republicans want to be in charge of our elections? Of course it is, and, sadly, that’s what’s going to happen. All you have to do to win in Indiana is have that (R) in front of your name.
What’s next with this Supreme Court? Are we going to have “Houses of Worship” all over the place like courthouses and post offices, paid for with taxpayers’ money? It’s going to take a long time to undo the damage that the conservative ideologues on this Court have done to our country.
Mike Pence, who worked for Donald Trump for four years, says he can’t think of a president who’s lied more than Biden. Apparently, the lie that almost got him killed doesn’t count, nor does the 30,000-plus other ones.
Over the years, I often heard the religious statement, “You will reap what you sow.” I also heard the secular statement which was similar in nature, “What goes around comes around.” I mention these two statements because apparently there is some real truth to these statements in the political world. In 2016, we placed a heavily flawed individual in the White House. We are still dealing with the fallout from his tenure. Additionally, the former guy is known for trying to humiliate, embarrass and shame others. The tables have turned. The January 6 committee has done an outstanding job of revealing Trump’s true character. As a result those close to Trump have said that he is stressed, angry and depressed! What you see at his rallies or while playing golf is only a facade. How do you think he felt when he saw his daughter’s January 6 testimony on the screen?
Moderate Republicans complain, with good reason, that their party is turning into a conspiracy-driven institution controlled by a fringe of radical, right wing extremists. Case in point, Eric Greitens, candidate for the U. S. Senate seeking to replace retiring Senator Roy Blount. Greitens, you might recall, was forced to resign some time ago as Governor of Missouri. Seems Greitens had an affair, and then tried to blackmail the woman into silence with nude photos he threatened to make public. Nice. That’s bad enough, but it gets even better. Last week, Greitens released an ad advocating the hunting of RINOs, Republicans in Name Only, with shotguns and assault weapons. You see, even Republicans who are not crazy enough to back the Big Lie or don’t sufficiently adore Donald Trump are fair game for being shot. And since there are so few Democrats to hunt in Missouri, weaker members of the GOP are the next logical targets for dwellers on the far right like Greitens. Why, you might well ask, do these people remain Republicans?
Where is the Republican plan to fight high gas prices or inflation? They blame Biden, but offer no better plan. Because they have none. No President of any country controls oil prices. Oil is sold on a world market, and prices are controlled by supply and demand. So if Republicans have no plan and can’t do better, maybe they should be honest and stop blaming Biden for gas prices. But lately, Republicans are having a problem with the truth. It’s just one Big Lie after another. So why would you vote for them?
