LOS ANGELES - More than 400 animals at the South L.A. animal shelter will be available for adoption as part of a Petpalooza adoption event on Saturday.
The L.A. Chargers are partnering with the city’s Animal Services Department for the event, which is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters and gerbils can be viewed and are ready to take home.
Throughout the day, staff from Dogs Playing for Life will be onsite to run a playgroup, showcasing animals’ personalities. The Michelson Found Animals Foundation is expected to provide free dog tags, collars and leashes while registering microchips for adopted pets.

As part of the celebration, adoption fees for dogs and cats will be waived for any who are adopted at any of the city’s six shelters throughout the weekend.
“Since 2020, L.A. Animal Services has worked closely with the L.A. Chargers, and we are grateful for their ongoing support to help the animals in our shelters find loving homes,” Annette Ramirez, interim general manager for LAAS, said in a statement.
“A special thank you to our partners, staff, volunteers, and the community who share in our lifesaving mission to make Los Angeles one of the most humane cities in the country,” she added.
The Chargers Petpalooza event will serve as a culmination of the first joint initiative of the LAAS Strategic Support Collaborative — aimed at improving shelter conditions, expanding support options at receiving, increasing visibility for adoptable pets, and establishing pathway planning for the animals at the South L.A. shelter, which is the most overcrowded of the six.
