Pitcher Tyler Kennedy was asked what was working on the mound after throwing a shutout to lead Granada to a 1-0 win at home over Foothill on Friday, .

He kept his answer short and sweet.

“Everything was working. All of it,” Kennedy said.

Using an array of fastballs and breaking pitches, the 6-foot-1 right-hander struck out nine, walked none and allowed just three hits to lead Granada (16-4, 8-1) to a bounce-back victory over the Falcons.

Granada fumbled a three-run lead in a 6-4 loss at Foothill (15-4, 5-4) on Wednesday and the defeat was on the minds of the Matadors on Friday.

“We were pretty driven coming into today,” Kennedy said. “We were pretty mad about Wednesday’s game. We just wanted our get back and we got it.”

Senior designated hitter Estevan Duarte, who is also a standout on Granada’s football team, knocked in the lone run in the home half of the sixth inning on an RBI double to left field.

Foothill pitcher Take Sato-Kreis was excellent. The senior allowed just three hits, no earned runs and struck out four across five innings.

“In games like this, it comes down to one pitch. (Granada) got that one key hit,” Foothill coach Zeke Palma said. “To beat teams like this, you have to play a perfect game. We were one pitch away from a perfect game.”

The win was crucial for Granada as the Livermore school remained in first place of the East Bay Athletic League standings — one game ahead of second-place De La Salle.

The Haybalers (13-7) had their big inning in the fifth, scoring three runs to go up 4-1. The Bells (11-9) responded with two in the sixth, but Hollister added an insurance run in the bottom of the inning, and that was all she wrote.

Willow Glen 3, Branham 1: Speaking of the Rams, Willow Glen gritted out a tough road win on Friday in San Jose, taking better advantage of its opportunities in a wacky game that could have gone either way.

No. 9 Mills 8, No. 13 St. Ignatius 1: Is Mills softball for real? The Vikings keep racking up data points that suggest they are. The latest one was an easy victory over West Catholic Athletic League power St. Ignatius that Mills didn’t have to sweat.

The Vikings (15-3-1) scored thrice in the second inning and thrice in the fifth after giving up one run in the third. Two insurance runs in the sixth sealed the deal.

Morgan Chu and Jazzy Maske each drove in two runs for Mills, with Sydney Wong, Lucy Esquivel and Audrey Jang also adding RBIs.

No. 2 Willow Glen 2, King’s Academy 1: Willow Glen’s undefeated record got its toughest test of the season against King’s Academy on Friday night. The two teams played to a scoreless tie through nine innings.

Just when the hope of scoring may have disappeared entirely, King’s had a sacrifice fly in the 10th by Kes Wong, putting the Rams’ unbeaten mark in serious jeopardy. Mia Bennette, who scored the run, doubled to reach base.

But Alanna Clincy was there for WG. The Rams’ junior star, laid down a bunt attempt and reached on an error, which led to Willow Glen scoring the tying run.
