Marin Academy sustained just its second loss of the season falling against Urban 3-2 in the Bay Counties League West girls soccer title game in San Francisco on Friday.

MA (17-2-1) is still expected to be a high seed — possibly No. 1 — in next week’s North Coast Section Division II playoffs. Addie Leary scored in the 17th minute for MA and Kacy Walker scored in the 70th minute. Both goals were assisted by Raya Leikin.

Boys soccer

Marin Academy (9-8-4) fell 2-0 against archrival University in Friday’s BCL West title game. MA had beaten and tied University once in the prior two meetings this season.

Women’s basketball

Redwood High grad Kylie Horstmeyer matched her career high to help lead San Diego to a 75-72 road victory over Pacific in overtime on Thursday night. Horstmeyer scored 26 points to tie her career best and to reach the 900-point plateau in her career. San Diego (5-19, 1-14 WCC) earned its first conference win of the 2024-25 season. The Toreros now return home to wrap up the weekend with an afternoon matchup against Santa Clara (14-12, 8-8 WCC) on Saturday at 2 p.m.

College softball

Dominican University fell to Saint Martins College, 6-5, Friday evening. Melissa Garcia led the Penguins (5-3) from the plate going 2-for-4 with a run and two RBIs, while Taylor Eby chipped in a 3-for-4 day from the plate of her own. Mill Valley’s Kassidy Stetler got the start for the Penguins (5-3) and she faced 16 batters through the first three innings as she gave up four runs on five hits, with two walks and two strikeouts.

College baseball

San Marin High grad Josh Martin hit an RBI-double during a 4-run third inning to help power Santa Rosa Junior College to a 9-0 road win against College of Marin on Friday. The host Mariners scattered six hits, with Wyatt Davis and Adrian Ruiz collecting two each. The Mariners (4-6-1) are scheduled to play on the road at West Valley on Saturday.
