FORT WORTH, Tex. >> There have been plenty of Colorado men’s basketball teams in recent memory that would have been all too happy to pounce on an opponent while it was down.

This year’s squad isn’t one of them.

The Buffaloes let another opportunity slip through their grasp on Sunday, as a hot start and a big rebounding advantage wasn’t enough for CU to finally get a taste of the win column in the Big 12. This time it was TCU that extended the Buffs’ misery, handing CU a 68-57 defeat at Schollmaier Arena.

CU fell to 0-10 in Big 12 play, continuing the program’s longest losing streak in 15 seasons under head coach Tad Boyle while giving the Buffs their worst start to a conference schedule since the 1985-86 team finished 0-14 in the Big Eight.

A familiar deficiency plagued the Buffs once again, as CU’s 19 turnovers turned into a 28-8 advantage for TCU in points off turnovers.

“That one got away from us there midway through the first half,” Boyle said. “We did some good things. To have 19 assists on the road, that’s hard to do. The unfortunate this is we had 19 turnovers. The bottom line, if you’re playing on the road in the Big 12 and you turn it over 19 times, and your opponent only turns it over eight times, it’s really, really hard to overcome that. It’s an 11-point game and we lose the turnover differential by 20. That’s pretty much it, and it’s been that way since 2025 started.”

CU’s 19 turnovers tied the third-most for the Buffs this season, and the giveaways ruined an otherwise solid offensive showing, with CU finishing with a .467 mark from the field. The turnovers also nullified the Buffs’ sizeable 34-22 rebounding advantage. The Buffs committed 10 turnovers in the first half, collecting four of them on shot clock violations, before committing nine more after the break due mostly to reckless passing.

Colorado jumped to a quick 11-2 lead after making five of its first six shots, but after a 3-pointer from Andrej Jakimovski that gave CU a 24-18 lead with just under 8 minutes remaining in the first half, the Buffs went 6 minutes, 21 seconds without a field goal. TCU, meanwhile, shook off its cold start to close the opening frame with a 16-3 run, taking a 34-27 lead at the break.

The Buffs remained within five points after a pair of Sebastian Rancik free throws with 8:52 remaining, but another cold spell led to a 12-0 TCU run that essentially sealed CU’s fate.

TCU entered the game with three consecutive losses and two straight defeats at home, but the Horned Frogs held the Buffs to a 1-for-7 mark on 3-pointers in the second half while steadily pulling away.

“It was a really good start for us. We knew we had to start games better, and I think we did,” said Jakimovski, who was the Buffs’ only double-digit scorer with 13 points. “But it’s our turnovers. It’s been the whole year. We have to fix that. We did some really good things throughout the game. We shared the ball. We crashed the boards. But 19 turnovers is a lot. In this conference, if we don’t fix it, you just can’t win the game. We were shooting 50% at one point and they were shooting 40% at one point, but they were outscoring us because of all the turnovers. That’s the main reason we lost the game.”
