BOULDER
Automatic recount likely for ballot issue
An automatic recount is likely for Boulder’s boards and commissions ballot issue, which failed by just 64 votes, according to final, unofficial results.
Ballot Issue 2E is a measure that could broaden the Boulder City Council’s ability to remove members from boards, among other things.
A 2023 boards and commissions assessment recommended the changes. In Boulder County, an automatic recount is triggered for a ballot issue when the margin between the “yes” and “no” votes or the candidates is 0.5% or less of the side with the highest votes.
Former therapist accused of child sex assault set for trial Dec. 3
A former Boulder therapist accused of sexually assaulting juvenile clients is expected to go to trial on Dec. 3.
Mark Hochwender, 73, pleaded not guilty to two counts of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust — pattern of abuse in 2023. Both counts are Class 3 felonies and would fall under Colorado’s indeterminate sentencing law for sex offenses, meaning Hochwender could face up to life in prison if convicted.
He faces a five-day jury trial and remains out of custody on a $25,000 personal recognizance bond. According to an affidavit, two sisters came forward and told police Hochwender sexually assaulted them while they were children and Hochwender was in his 40s.
